TROY -- Eugene L. Rehmert, age 85, of Troy, OH passed away on October 10, 2022 at Ohio's Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit in Troy. He was born in Miami County, OH, on November 29, 1936 the son of Leo and Louise (Zeller) Rehmert.
He is survived by siblings: Gloria (Mark) Simmons and Robert (Doris) Rehmert; and four nephews and two nieces and their families. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings: Mary Rogers and Bruce Rehmert.
The family farmed in Concord Twp., Miami County, where Eugene contributed to that enterprise. Eugene graduated from Troy High School in 1955. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army, where his service included 29 months in Germany during the Cold War era. He later went to work at GM's Inland Division in Vandalia which became a 30 year career. Eugene was a lifetime bachelor who was very supportive and generous to and for family members. He was a frequent traveler to Cincinnati Reds baseball games, Troy HS football games and rode his bicycle in Miami and adjacent counties for many years. His health began failing and he resided the last several years at Randall Residence (Caldwell House) Troy in assisted living. He died from hip surgery complications after a fall.
A family event of commemoration will occur later. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Ohio's Hospice of Miami County, Brukner Nature Center or American Lung Association. Friends may express condolences to the family through www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
