Gail Haddad Obituary

TROY -- On the 23rd of March we lost our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, Gail Haddad.

Gail was born in Cleveland Ohio on 23 October 1933. She was the youngest child, of three children, born to Raymond and Norma Hachtel. Gail left Cleveland in 1951 to earn her nursing degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing and Health. It was here where she met her future husband, Arthur "Ozzie" Haddad. In December of 1955 Gail returned to Cleveland to be married to Arthur prior to moving to Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio where Arthur was stationed with the Army Corp of Engineers. While in San Antonio Gail served as a staff nurse in the OB department at Baptist Memorial Hospital.

In September of 1957 Gail and Arthur moved to Troy, Ohio where they would spend 64 wonderful years raising their family and serving their community. Prior to starting their family Gail worked as a staff nurse and OB supervisor at Stouder Memorial Hospital. Gail then devoted herself to raising her three sons, all three of which are Eagle Scouts. In 1975, she returned to the practice of nursing when she established a Health Occupations program at Troy High School. Gail transitioned this program to the newly opened Upper Valley Joint Vocational School (UVJVS). Gail served as the initial instructor in the Adult Education Practical Nursing Program at UVJVS. She was involved in establishing the program, developing the curriculum and instructing in both classroom and clinical settings. She remained in this role for 19 years until she retired in 1996. In 2010 she received the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award and in 2015 she received the University of Cincinnati College of Nursing 125th Anniversary Alumni Legacy Award for Outstanding Career Achievement.

Gail was very active in her community including her church, Troy First United Methodist Church, where she served on several committees including the Church Council and Board of Trustees. Gail served on the Upper Valley Medical Center (UVMC) Board of Trustees as a board member and chair of the Corporate Joint Advisory Committee. She assisted in organizing the Communities Alive Program, an initiative of UVMC to promote and enhance wellness in Miami County. Gail also served the American Association of University Women's Troy Branch as president and program chair promoting educational opportunities for teenage girls. In 2009, Gail and Arthur received the annual Troy Area Chamber of Commerce "Community Service Award".

When not taking care of her family, teaching, or serving her community, Gail loved to read, visit antique stores and travel. She had many beloved collections that she inherited from her mother and added to with Arthur. Gail and Arthur enjoyed hosting parties for their friends and also hosted the family Christmas celebration.

Gail and Arthur moved to the Luther Village retirement community in Arlington Heights, Illinois in July of 2021 to be closer to their oldest son and his family.

In addition to her husband of 66 years Gail is survived by three sons: Kenneth (Meg), Raymond (Anne) and David. She has four grandchildren: Dave, Kelsey, Kathy (Tom) and Kevin. Gail was also blessed with two greatgrandchildren, Jackson and Addison. In addition to her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her brother, William Hachtel (Nancy), and her sister, Patricia Thompson (Gordan).

In lieu of flowers donations in Gail's memory can be made to the Troy Foundation, www.thetroyfoundation.org. Condolence may be expressed to the family at www.bairdfuneralhome.com.

The family will receive friends on Friday, 8 April at Baird Funeral Home from 3:00 to 6:30 pm. Gail's memorial service will be held on Saturday, 9 April at Troy First United Methodist Church at 10:00 am. A graveside service will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
