PIQUA -- Helen L. Hughes, 82 of Piqua, passed away at 6:11 p.m. Sunday, October 23, 2022 at Ohio's Hospice of Miami County. She was born April 26, 1940 in Lockington to the late Leonard and Nellie (Schaffer) Owen.
Helen left behind three children to cherish her memory, Cathy (Stacey) Weinstock of Maplewood, Jeff (Lee) Hughes of Piqua, and Crystal (Scott) Neargarder of Troy; six grandchildren, Chad Hughes, Brittany (Justin) Verhotz, Joshua Adkins, Brayden Peters, Breanna Peters, and Anneliese Wolf; three great grandchildren, Branson, Lona, Averie, and one on the way!; also many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
Helen was a graduate of Piqua Central High School and worked as a seamstress for Medalist Underwear Factory for over 30 years. In her free time, Helen loved to play Bingo whenever she could, enjoyed maintaining her flower beds and working on crafts, puzzles, and word searches. Family came first for her, and loved to have family near and was quick to spoil the grandchildren. A special thank you to all the family, and her caretakers Julie, Tina, Betty and Darla that helped to take care of Mom and made it possible for her to stay comfortable at home.
"She asked for so little, but gave so much, she lives forever in the hearts she touched."
A service to honor her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Simmons officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday also at the funeral home.
