COVINGTON — Herbert W. "Herb" Hess, age 82 of Covington, passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at the Versailles Heath Care.
Herb was born in Covington on December 2, 1933 to the (late) James E. & Blanche M. (Wolfe) Hess; was a graduate of Piqua Central High School, Class of 1953; was an U.S. Air Force veteran serving from 1955 to 1959; had previously worked at Hobart Manufacturing, Troy, Penrod & Anderson Cabinet Shop, Piqua, and a farmer; member of the Covington Church of the Brethren; was an avid airplane enthusiast; loved his family; and enjoyed sitting on his front porch.
Preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Sandra Hess & Elizabeth Hess; five sisters, Alice Wenger, Bernice Gantt, DeVesta Hess, Iva Emerick, & Rose Ella Hess; and two brothers, Victor Hess & Homer Hess. Herb is survived by his wife, whom he married on April 13, 1957, Katherine (Perée) Hess; three children, Herbert W. Hess Jr. of Dayton, Mary Taylor of Covington, Susanne (Louis) Westfall of Gettysburg; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Ryan) Crist, David (Emily) Taylor, Jessica (E.J.) Taylor, Michael (Chastity) Westfall, Matthew (Kaylee) Westfall, Deven Taylor, Josiah Westfall; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Juanita Anderson of Piqua; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Bridges-Stocker-Fraley Funeral Home, Covington with Pastor Michael Yingst officiating. Interment Highland Cemetery, Covington. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. Tuesday until time of service at the funeral home.
