TROY - John A. Patten, age 91, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2021. John was born 10 minutes before his twin brother on November 7, 1929 in Piqua Ohio, to the late James and Helen Patten.
John is survived by his daughters, Anita Patten (Robert Tackett), Cheryl Chaney (Billy Chaney), four grandchildren, Lisa Johnson, Savhanna Aycock, Brittnie Patten, Brittany Tackett, six great-grandchildren and one great-grand dog – Jake, a companion in his final months.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Billie Patten (2019), his twin Joseph Patten (2020), brother Paul Patten (2017), son Brett Patten (1992) and grandson Jamie Johnson (2018).
A graduate of Tipp City High School and Ohio State, John lived his entire life in Miami County on family farms except for a stint courtesy of the United States Army National Guard and a conflict in Korea. John was proud of his 38-year career at First National Bank (Star Bank) as Assistant Vice President.
John's claim to fame was his parade floats, building the first in 1948 and so many more, innovative at the time as self-propelled and with animation. He was proud of his numerous awards, trophies, and pictures with reigning festival queens. In 1994, he and his twin brother served as the Strawberry Festival Grand Marshals in recognition of their years of participation in all the area parades and festivals.
He spent his retirement years traveling with his wife, tinkering around the Patten farm and building projects for family members. He always had a project going and often could be found at the burn pile after trimming trees and clearing brush. He was an Ohio State fan and watched football classics as a pastime.
John was a member of the International Twins Association, Double H Squares, and was a former Optimist and a former Auxiliary State Highway patrol officer.
John passionately loved his wife, and his family calling us "his girls." He was well loved by everyone who he met and will be greatly missed as the patriarch of the family.

Such a nice man! I loved his story of when he first saw Billie, he told his brother, “That’s the girl I’m going to marry.” Both of them were such wonderful people.
Our sincere condolences to the family.
