PIQUA — John Richard (Dick) Peltier, 83, of Piqua, went home to be with the Lord at 11:23 a.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy. He was born in Piqua on Dec. 17, 1930, to the late Alfred and Minna (Frigge) Peltier. On Dec. 29, 1951, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Piqua, he married Elizabeth (Nancy) Schnorr and they were happily married for forty four years. She preceded him in death on Dec. 16, 1995. In November 1996, Dick married Beverly Butt and was happily married for 13 years. Beverly preceded him in death in 2008.
Dick is survived by 10 children, Pamela (Mark) Johnston, Piqua, Deborah (John) Owsiany, Piqua, Karen (Terry) Jones, Piqua, Robert (Hyesuk) Peltier, Canal Winchester, Thomas (Cynthia) Peltier, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Michael (Kelly) Peltier, Piqua, Christine (Doug) Patch, Dublin, Julia (J. J.) Jones, Sandy, Utah, David (Cindy) Peltier, Marion, William (Angela) Peltier, Troy; one brother, Raymond (Hazel) Peltier, Piqua; three sisters, Rosemary Householder, St. Marys, Rita Miller, Sidney, and Charlene Olds, Piqua; also survived by a special friend, Margaret Tilton; 35 grandchildren, Jeremy (Carean) Johnston, Alicia Johnston, Nathan (Kyle McCann) Johnston, Nicholas (Melissa) Johnston, Michelle Calvert, Tiffany Ranalli, Harry (Angie) Jones, Renee Jones, Cyrus Jones, Joshua Peltier, Porsha Peltier, Reese Peltier, Colton (Meghan) Peltier, Carter Peltier, Ashley (Chad) Anderson, Allison Peltier, Adam Peltier, Jason (Kristina) Patch, John Patch, Travis Jones, Justin Jones, Jordyn Jones, Kyle Peltier, Mishea Peltier, Paige Peltier, Brittany Peltier, Hannah Peltier, Korey Peltier, Maria Peltier, Olivia Peltier, Madeline Peltier, Jillian Peltier, Amelia Peltier, Melissa (Jamey) Reinke, Natalia Owsiany; 21 great- grandchildren; He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Dick graduated from Piqua Catholic High School in 1948.
Dick proudly served in the U. S. Navy and he then served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Dick delivered milk for four years at Meadow Gold Dairy. He then started his own business, Peltier Products, until 1977. He then owned and operated Peltier Catering from 1976 to 1997.
Dick was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Knights of St. John. He was an usher at St. Mary Catholic Church and was a former member of the Eagles and Moose.
Dick enjoyed all kinds of sports and particularly loved to bowl and play corn hole. He loved to camp and bought a school bus when his children were young so they could camp. He never met a stranger. Dick felt that wherever he was on earth was a little taste of Heaven because you could make it feel like Heaven wherever you were. He believed he was the richest man in the world because of his children and grandchildren with whom he loved spending time. Dick's positive attitude on life has been passed on to every one of his children and he took great pleasure in the simple things. He encouraged everyone and treated everyone as if they were his own family. Dick had a strong work ethic and worked a lot but was always there for his family. He always put his family first. Dick exemplified being a true Saint through his care and love for both of his wives.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Piqua, with the Rev. Fr. Angelo Caserta and the Rev. Fr. Thomas Bolte as Co-Celebrants. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua. Full military honors will be presented by The Elite Tribute Squad. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua. A Prayer Service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

My fondest memory of Dick and the Peltier Family is of all the good times we had at Camp Wakonda along with the Apples and Coach Heil and family. My Dad passed away just 4 weeks ago and I'm sure the two of them are already telling stories of the past. Remember the good times.
