PIQUA -- Richard C. Butsch, 94, of Piqua, died at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Garbry Ridge Assisted Living. He was born June 27, 1927 in Piqua to the late Carl A. and Ruth (Heffner) Butsch. He married Phyllis E. Sullenberger in August of 1948, a union that would span seventy years; she preceded him in death April 23, 2018.
Survivors include two sons, Michael (Janet) Butsch, William Butsch all of Piqua; two grandchildren, Steve (Julie) Butsch, Bryan (Jennifer) Butsch; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Scott Butsch; and one sister, Dorothy Kiefer.
Mr. Butsch was a graduate of Piqua Central High School where he played football and baseball. He graduated from the Columbus Business College. He worked in the meat cutting department of Kroger before becoming the store manager. He worked for a short time at Carter Lumber, and then moved on to become the parts manager at Dan Hemm Auto Dealer. He proudly served in the United States Navy in World War II. He was a fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Cincinnati Reds. Richard enjoyed spending this time giving to others through Meals on Wheels, volunteering at the VFW as well as donating blood whenever he could.
A time to honor his life will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 12, 2021 at the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 13, 2021 at Forest Hill Cemetery with Rev. John McRoberts officiating. Full military honors will be provided at the cemetery by the Veterans Elite Tribute Squad. I worked with Richard at Dan Hemm. He always had a kind word and a smile for everyone he met. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. RIP Richard. We will miss you....
