Robert Widener Obituary

TROY -- Robert William Widener, age 87 of Troy, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2022 at his residence. He was born July 7, 1934 in Troy to the late Clarence Ray and Edith (Conrad) Widener.

He was preceded in death by his son Thomas Widener, grandson Mark Dobbs, and sister Mary Kirves.

Those left to cherish Robert's memory include his wife Stephany (Cook) Widener, whom he married July 20, 1963; daughters: Carla Widener Sola (Stephen) of Ashburn, VA, Marcy Widener Humes (Eric) of Nashville, TN, and Angela Dobbs (Timothy) of Brownsburg, IN; brother Raymond Widener of Troy; grandchildren: Timothy "TJ" Dobbs, Rachael Dobbs, Emily Sola, Hannah Humes, Christopher Sola, Zachary Humes, and Owen Widener; as well as great-grandchildren Alexandria and Jack.

Robert was a US Army veteran and a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy. He was a member of the Parish Council and taught CCD as well as worked for many years as a server for Mass. He was a graduate of Troy High School and received his Associate's Degree from the University of Dayton. He was a proud bibliophile and wine enthusiast. Robert was Treasurer for the Troy Literacy Council and he also volunteered with the Troy Historical Society. He was also a member of Troy Elks #833. Robert worked and retired with General Motors after 40 years of service as a Test Engineer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. James Duell as celebrant. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Memorial donations may be given to: Ohio's Hospice of Miami County: 3230 N. Co. Rd. 25A, Troy, OH 45373 or the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Arrangements entrusted to Fisher-Cheney Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.fishercheneyfuneralhome.com .
