Velma Christine Crockett passed away Dec. 13, 2018 at Diversicare of Claiborne. She was the daughter of William and Artie Ellison Ray. She was married to Venis Crockett for almost 50 years. Survivors include: two children, Rena Vay Janke and husband, Lester of Marathon, NY and Michael Venis Crockett and wife, Rosie of Harrogate, TN. ; Grandaughter: Kristin Janke Schneider and husband, Tim with children, Colton and Abram of Bovina Center, NY, Javan Michael Crockett and wife, Beth with children, Jaxson and Emmalin of Morristown, TN; grandson, Clinton Venis Crockett of Harrogate, TN; sisters, Elizabeth Lester of Monroe, MI and Lucille and husband, Don Ramsey of Cookevillle, TN; sisters-in-law, Thelma Gilbert Ray and Mary McArtor Ray of Monroe, MI. Five brothers and sisters preceded her in death, Homer (as a young child), Mamie, Sewell and Laford of Monroe, MI and Vivian of Lakeland, FL; three brothers-in-law preceded her in death, Claude Lester of Monroe, MI, John Daniel of Lakeland, FL and Earl Lambert of Bristol, TN. Christine was a member of Forge Ridge Baptist Church and worked at Forge Ridge School for more than four decades. At Christine's request, there will be no visitation at the funeral home. There will be a memorial service at the Forge Ridge Baptist Church at 1:00PM Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Diversicare of Claiborne for their care during Christine's stay there. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Forge Ridge Baptist Church in care of Diane Heck at 652 Greers Chapel RD., Harrogate, TN.
