Angelo Bartolotta Obituary

Angelo L. Bartolotta
Angelo L. Bartolotta, husband of the late Helen (Johnnie) Bartolotta, passed away peacefully at his home on March 10, 2025. He was 100 years old.
Angelo was a son of Salvatore and Filomena (Airo) Bartolotta of Ferry Street. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Helen (Johnnie) Bartolotta, his brothers, Carmelo and Louis (Boots), his sisters, Anna Fazzino, Josephine Tyrseck and Lucy Cecchini, and his son-in-law, Richard LeBrasseur. He was also predeceased by his companion, Josie Marino, and many life-long friends.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen LeBrasseur, and his sister, Helen Campisi, and his extended family of many nieces and nephews and many friends.
After his graduation from Middletown High School, he was drafted at the age of 18 into the Army and became part of the 110th AntiAircraft Battalion. In December of 1943, the 45+ troops from Middletown were sent to England and on D-Day plus one they were part of the D-Day Invasion at Omaha Beach in Normandy. They went on to fight in the Battle of the Bulge and then went on to escort the French Army into Paris during the Liberation.
In 2019, Angelo was honored with the key to the City of Middletown and was the Grand Marshal of the Memorial Day Parade. He was a member of the Elks Club and the Italian American Civic Order. In January of this year, he was honored at a memorable event held at his residence, Heritage Commons, for both his participation in World War II and his turning 100 years old.
Angelo was a control room supervisor at HELCO (now EVERSOURCE) and he retired after thirty years. During his retirement, he became an avid vegetable gardener and played weekly golf at Indian Springs in Middlefield and also enjoyed playing cards. He was a life-long Yankee fan, and he and his wife enjoyed traveling to Italy and Aruba along with their "gang" of friends and family members.
In 2022, he finally gave up living alone in his house he had built in 1965. He moved to Heritage Commons, where he made many friends and enjoyed the camaraderie and the facility. The family would like to thank the staff at Heritage Commons for their kindness and care. Angelo thoroughly enjoyed his stay there and felt at home. Thank you to the whole staff, especially Carmela, Sue, Nancy, Saundra, and his attentive aides, Annmarie and JoJo.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 20. Calling Hour is at D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 South Main St., Middletown, from 9:00-10:30am, followed by a Mass at 11 am at St. Sebastian Church. Burial will follow at the Veterans Cemetery, Middletown.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Sebastian Church, 155 Washington St., Middletown, or a charity of your choice.

I only met Angelo a couple of years ago. I worked as the lunch time waitress at Heritage Commons. Each day Angelo would come to lunch. He was always looking like a million bucks (with his sweater vests) and that big big smile. It was always a pleasure to see him. I have learned so much about his love of family and country over the past several months. God Bless. He will be missed

Dearest Karen and Helen-
Growing up on Ferry Street was truly the honor of our lives- knowing and loving the most wonderful people- like Ange and your family made it that way. Middletown has lost one of its finest. I´m so sorry..
May Flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest, sweet Angelo...

Karen, I've known Angelo since I was a young man.I was proud to call him my friend.Last month when Fox 61 aired his 100th birthday gala, I watched with great admiration and pride. When the reporter asked him, " what's your secret to longevity",I wanted to shout out...POKER!! For 55 years Angelo played poker every Friday night with Campy, Sari, Squeeky, Butch,Corky, Pirchy, Bangi, Guido and Bill Grady. If you can survive one night of their kibitzing, you can conquer anything! I'm so glad my brother Glenn and I got to visit him at Heritage. It was amazing and a real thrill to be with a bonafide centarian, who always did the sweater vest proud! Our sympathies to you, your family and of course Helen. Gary Garofalo

God Bless Angelo. I knew him many years, working at Middletown Station. My father knew longer than that working there before me. I had the privilege of one day, taking him to Saratoga. He loved it. In later years, we would sometimes meet at the OTB in Hartford on Kentucky Derby Day. All of these are fond memories. Rest in Peace Angelo ...

We've lost one of the best. "Uncle Ange" and "Auntie Johnnie" were two of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. I was lucky enough to be one of their next-door neighbors while growing up in Middletown. He was always quick with a joke or some kind words of advice. Uncle Ange taught me how to play golf and was brave enough to take me out on the course for my first round. Thanks to him I continue to enjoy playing golf some 40 years later and still relish his golf tips. He truly was One of the Best from the Greatest Generation. God rest his soul.

A life well lived. Uncle Ange was my next door neighbor on Tryon St all those years. The most beautiful garden you ever saw. Johnnie and Ange were the nicest couple. God Bless Him.

My condolences to the family. Angelo was a wonderful man. He was the oldest and last survivor of the poker club my Dad, Bill Grady, belonged to, for 50 years.
May his memory be a blessing.
