Ann Soucy Yolles

Ann Soucy Yolles (Mintzer) of Old Saybrook passed away peacefully at her home on Aug. 7, 2011, after almost two years of living with ALS.
During her illness, she was able to celebrate her life with family and friends who blessed her with many visits, gifts, flowers, prayers and good cheer. There was laughter every day and with her grace, she was able to give comfort to all those whose lives she touched. Ann was loved by all and though taken too soon, will always be remembered with a smile.
She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Helen Mintzer of the Westfield section of Middletown.
Ann was most proud of her career as an operating room nurse at Midstate Medical Center. She was the "front line" manager of the operating room for the past 20 years of her 40-year career. She not only loved every minute, but felt greatly privileged to work with a staff who treated their patients as if they were their own families.
During her life, in health and illness, she was loved and embraced by her husband Robert, her sisters Carol Plummer, Rosemary Shea and her brother-in-law Michael Shea. Those special to her include her "nursing" sisters, Peggy Sherwood and Donna Sassi, her long-time friend Nancy Martin and cousin Theresa Manning, who all visited often.
Ann's nephews were the light of her life and simply seeing them always boosted her spirits.
She leaves nephews Christian Plummer, Geoffrey Plummer, Stephen Shea, his wife Cara and great-nephews Miles and Gavin Shea on her side of the family. Her sister-in-law and niece, Nancy and Becky Levine and brother-in-law Richard Yolles, though far away, always stayed in touch.
A special bond was formed with cousins-in-law Judy Litt, Suzy Smuckler and her late husband Gary, who visited and called regularly. She was extremely grateful for the many other friends and colleagues, too numerous to mention, who often visited and travelled great distances to share their time, kindness and love.
Annie was particularly proud and honored to have just about everyone mentioned above and many others, including many members of her extended family, be part of the largest team ever to participate in a walk on behalf of ALS in Connecticut.
Special thanks to our loving and diligent CNAs, Jessica, Ashley and Holly, and to everyone from Middlesex Hospice and the Hospital for Special Care who helped insure that Ann received the finest care possible while she was ill.
A memorial service and Mass will be held at St. Pius X Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20, at 310 Westfield Street, Middletown. A reception will follow the memorial service.
