Anna Pillarella
Anna (Hathaway) Pillarella, 86, of Middletown, beloved wife of the late John F. Pillarella, Sr., passed away on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at her daughters home. She was born in Hartford and grew up in Marlborough, CT. Anna is survived by her two daughters, Marie Gilbert and her husband Michael of Middletown and Cathy Viruet and her husband Mitchell of Virginia; and her two sons John Pillarella Jr and Steven Pillarella, both of Middletown; three granddaughters, Ashley, Corinne, and Shelbi Viruet and a grandson Tyler Gilbert; as well as two great-granddaughters Gem and Rini. She worked at Liberty Bank and Russell Library. She was an avid reader and travel coordinator with AARP 3394 and was also an active member of the Middletown Senior Center. It just wasn't Christmas without her homemade Ravioli and raisin bread. A graveside service will be held on Monday May 13th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Sebastian Cemetery, Middlefield. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to The Russell Library, 123 Broad St., Middletown, CT. To share memories or express condolences online, please visit www.biegafuneralhome.com.

To Anna's family, I wish sincerest sympathies and warm thoughts on Anna's recent passing. I had the pleasure of meeting Anna recently during her stay at Portland Care and Rehab and very much enjoyed meeting her, sharing conversations and time participating in her rehabilitation program. She was a lovely, warm woman who will assuredly be missed by her family about whom she spoke with affection.
My grandmother was Nellie Pillarella DeToro, married to Jim DeToro, my father being Jimmy DeToro , named after his father. Wonderful memories of the Pillarella family stay with me, having grown up around Aunt Josephine, Aunt Connie, Uncle Frankie, Aunt Mary and Aunt Pauline to name a few.
My condolences to your family. Karen DeToro Heffernan
