Bruno D'Amico Obituary

Bruno D'Amico
Bruno D'Amico, 58, of Middletown, beloved husband of Cheryl (Czapiga) D'Amico, died Sunday April 10, 2022 at Hartford Hospital. Bruno was born in Melilli, Italy, the son of the late Giovanni D'Amico and Sebastina (Catalano) D'Amico. His career was mostly spent in the tiling industry. He was quoted in published articles as being a "Maestro" of his craft, the ultimate comment a tradesman can receive. Bruno had an eye for design like no other. Not only was his work excellent, it was creative, unique and one of a kind. Bruno's work spoke for itself and the word spread. In his later years, he did tile on the side and was offered a full-time gig; he loved working at Hartford Convention center as an Engineer. No surprise, he made a mark on his co-workers and was beyond loved and appreciated. There was no other couple like Bruno and Cheryl. They met at Woodrow Wilson High School when Cheryl was a sophomore and Bruno was a freshman. They started dating in Cheryl's senior year and have been together ever since. They were the definition of soul mates and their children aspire to have a love just like them. Bruno loved spending time with his family. They brought him the greatest pleasure above all. He became a "Nuni" in 2018 and his two grandchildren were his pride and joy. He always believed and supported in his children no matter what they wanted to do in life. His creative eye and artistic talent was passed on to his oldest daughter, Jenna. He was her biggest supporter in pursing her dream of being a baker, letting her use his home kitchen every weekend, to opening a store front. He was beyond proud when she opened her bakery in 2020 and was her ultimate fan. Zachary, his only son, was lucky to spend hours on hours weekly, simply talking to his dad on how to navigate through life. He taught him to take pride in being who you are, never act like somebody you're not, and be a good person no matter what. Bruno was Zachary's best friend and the most authentic, genuine, real human being he ever knew and there will never be a person on this earth like him. His youngest daughter, Kaitlyn, had a similar sense of humor and both shared a passion and love for the game of soccer. He was so proud of her in all her accomplishments, and was a big role in her decision for playing collegiate soccer at SCSU. He was her motivation and taught her treasured lessons on and off the field. Bruno was the her loudest cheerleader and couldn't be more proud of his "Owl". Bruno was one of a kind. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Bruno, you know just how funny, positive, and personable he was. He built his house from the ground up, including sketching the blueprints to being the general contractor. He loved working in his yard and being outside. Bruno was a piano player an avid soccer lover. He played on the varsity team in high school from freshman to senior year and was MVP. Bruno was the ultimate soccer Dad. He rarely missed any games that all 3 children were involved in. He was known as the "side-line" coach and the loudest fan in the crowd. Bruno's remaining time was spent with family at his side. Besides his wife, Bruno is survived by two daughters, Jenna Carone and her husband Anthony of Rocky Hill, Kaitlin D'Amico of Middletown; and his son, Zachary D'Amico, of Middletown. He is also survived by three brothers, Anthony D'Amico of Wilmington, NC, Joseph D'Amico of Middletown, Maurizio D'Amico and his wife Maria of East Hampton; and two sisters, Josephine Weil of East Hampton, Meri D'Amico-Dillon and her husband John Dillon of Portland. He is also survived by 2 grandchildren: Arianna and Anthony Carone. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday (April 20th) at 11:00 AM at St. Colman Church in Middlefield. Burial will be in Middlefield Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday (April 19th), 5:00 to 7 :00 PM. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver Street, Middletown. The the D'Amico family: God Bless Bruno and may his memory be a blessing to you. Bruno tiled my new home in 2000 and then came back a couple of years later to design my kitchen's backsplash. He took such pride in his work and was a craftsman. He had a true zest for life and was such a pleasure to work with. I recall him talking about his home in Middletown. I can only imagine what a great father, and husband he was. I also recall his sense of humor which made the stress of building and picking out materials easier. My sincere condolences.

Anita Ford Saunders

April 20, 2022

My name is Anita Ford Saunders. Bruno was my customer when I was working for the Yellow Pages many, many years ago. Of course when I visited him, we struck up a conversation. When he learned that my husband, Les Saunders, was his music teacher, he couldn´t wait to tell me that Les taught him how to play "Car Wash" on the recorder...so , you guessed it. He found his recorder and played the entire song for me right there in his living room! I can´t remember if I even sold him his YP ad, but I do remember laughing with him and how warm and welcoming he was. Bruno was a joy to be around, even if I only spent a little time with him. Of course, Bruno did some tile work for us that is still stunning several decades later. Both Les and I are devastated by this loss. May his memories warm your hearts and give you comfort for a lifetime.

Sending love and prayers for the D’Amico Family! I had the pleasure of photographing his daughters wedding a year ago and he treated me as though I was apart of the family! I ran into him at the convention center in January while doing a bridal show and he couldn’t stop thanking me for being apart of his daughters day and how much he appreciated all those memories— I didn’t know him long or much at all but I will never forget how kind and how grateful he was —this was one of the best families I ever had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know! my heart breaks and you all are in my thoughts and prayers he was a wonderful person! God bless ❤- Mel b

During my childhood, growing up across the street from the D'Amico's was one of my fondest memories. It is easy to go back to that place on fun and laughter and lightheartedness, yet most painful to come to grips with his recent passing. He always made me laugh and Bruno was someone who always had your back. Anything you needed, he would be there to help. I wish I could back to those fun days on Plymouth Street, but I know Bruno is now in the most incredible place of all. Shine bright in heaven Bruno! You will never, ever be forgotten. My heart goes out to my "second family" - the entire D'Amico family. Take comfort that he is now resting in peace.

My sincere Condolences to the entire D’Amico Family, Cheryl, Jenna, Zachary and Kaitlin during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of being an apprentice under My Mentor Bruno at the age of 18 back in 1988 learning the trade and eye for installation of Tile. Bruno definitely was artistic in every job that came his way, I will cherish all the years spent working with Bruno and listening to his advice on life. RIP my friend until we meet again. gone but not forgotten.

We saw Bruno frequently over the past 2.5 years while he did tile work at our house. He was such a genuinely nice person. We went to bed one night and heard singing in the basement-sure enough it was Bruno. He had let himself in to work late because he promised to get the job done. His dedication to his work, family, and friends was quite evident. Cheryl, we are so glad we got to spend a beautiful September day with you two and hear about your kids and grandkids. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family who he loved so dearly.

I am so very sorry for the loss of your husband, dad, grandfather, friend. I met Bruno through contracting work he did for us. In those short weeks, I noticed a kind, funny man who adored his family. We also talked about Matt because he found a dime on the floor in our garage (in East Hampton) and said it was a sign from Matt. We also knew Matt from town. And of course, it goes without saying, he had an amazing eye for design and took a lot of pride in his work. I feel blessed for having met him. Sending warm thoughts and prayers to his family. He loved you dearly.
