Carleton Riddick Obituary

Carleton L. Riddick Sr.
Carleton Lewis Riddick, Sr., born April 24, 1950 in Middletown, CT to the late Walter McKinley and Lois McArthur Riddick, departed this life peacefully at the Middlesex Hospital while in Hospice Care on Monday, November 15, 2021.
Carleton leaves to mourn his death--his brother, James A. Riddick, Middletown, CT; sister, Eleanor L. Bain, Durham, NC; a very special and devoted friend, Janice Bartolotta, Middletown, CT; son, Carleton L. Riddick, Jr., Middletown, CT; and a grandson, Jachai Riddick, Bristol, CT. Also survived by his 6 aunts--Constance Thornhill, Bronx, NY; Lannie Morehead, Fort Washington, MD; Eula Phillips, New York, NY; Henrietta Howard, Oxon Hill, MD; Joan Scott Hill, Upper Marlboro, MD; Lula McArthur, Middletown, CT; and a host of cousins and devoted friends.
Carleton was a member of the Cross Street A.M.E. Zion Church in Middletown for 71 years. As a youth, he joined and participated in the Junior Choir; and in his adult years assisted in helping at the church's After School Tutorial Program for elementary and youth children and served as a Class Leader to some of the church congregation members. Carleton reached out to the sick and shut-in -- expressing his concern for their health and well being.
Carleton's education included Nathaniel White Elementary School in Cromwell, CT; Wilbert Snow School, Middletown, CT; Woodrow Wilson Junior and Senior High Schools graduating in the class of 1969; and a graduate of the Middlesex Community College, Middletown, CT. Carleton also attended the New Haven Academy of Business, New Haven, CT and a school of Radio Broadcasting having developed an interest in radio music. His passion for music led him to establish a Facebook following for music lovers.
Carleton's employment included working as a Systems Analyst at the Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance Company, Hartford, CT and West Haven V.A. Medical Center until his retirement.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday, November 23rd from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown where masks are required and social distancing is requested by the family. Don't remember if I knew about Carlton's passing a few years back. Wish him a heavenly birthday. Worked with him at VACT for many years. He was the best. His picture personifies him perfectly. I will always remember that smile. Rest in peace.

Carl was loved by all who knew him. We have been friends since high school, at Woodrow Wilson.
In more recent years, I feel he was the glue that bound our class together, playing the music of our time (and other times!) on Facebook. Sometimes he singled out a person or a school year, ultimately spreading it around so that everyone felt special.
He was firmly convicted in what he felt was right, and not afraid to say it; but he tempered his opinions with a view towards others who might disagree, so long as everyone remained civil.
He brought everyone up a little higher with his attitude, his willingness to give whatever he could, his presence and indeed, participation, even when it was a tough road to just get dressed and get there...
After listening to his service today, I know we likely did not know the half of what he accomplished, what he gave, how he shared himself and all that he had, the legacy he left, but I am thankful for the little peephole I had, to be witness to a great life lived fully.
