Caroline Kayser Obituary

Caroline "Lynne" Kayser, of Sheffield, died Wednesday evening July 13, 2011, at Northeastern VT Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury, surrounded by her loving friends. She was 68.
She was born Nov. 30, 1942, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of John and Catherine (Smither) Callahan. She graduated from MacDuffie High School of Springfield, Mass., Indian River Junior College in Florida in 1965, and then studied sociology at the University of South Florida.
Formerly of East Haddam, Lynne worked for the state of Connecticut, Department of Mental Retardation, where she was very passionate about caring for those she served. She retired in 2000 and moved to Sheffield, Vt., where she worked for the state of Vermont at the Lyndonville Welcome Center.
Lynne was a dedicated volunteer who was embraced by her Sheffield community. Her devoted memberships included the Sheffield-Wheelock Fire Dept., Sheffield Planning Committee, Lyndon Rescue Inc., VT Trappers Association, Red Hatters, and the Order of Eastern Star. She was also active in the Sheffield Historical Society where she spearheaded the effort to restore the Old Meeting House.
She loved being outdoors interacting with nature. Native American culture and animals were very special to her.
Those who loved and knew her will miss her zesty spirit, long tales and her wonderful laugh.
Survivors include a son; three grandchildren; her longtime dear friend, Richard Ziobron of Sheffield; and many friends whom she loved, and who loved her.
She was predeceased by her parents.
Funeral services will be held in Sheffield at the Old Baptist Church/Meeting House on Berry Hill Road, on Monday, July 18, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Anne Hockridge officiating. Burial will follow in William-Dexter Cemetery in Sheffield. There will be no visiting hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in her memory may be directed to, Lyndon Rescue Inc., P.O. Box 401, Lyndonville, VT 05851.
