Charles WILDE Obituary

WILDE, Charles Franklin
'Chuck'
June 21, 1921 - Jan. 18, 2014
Chuck was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma and moved to Sacramento at the age of ten. He was preceded in death by parents, Winifred and T. E. Wilde; brother, Tom Wilde, Jr; and sister, June Wilde Reid. He was in the graduating class of 1939 at C. K. McClatchy High School where he was Student Body President, a graduate of Sacramento Junior College, attended University of California, Davis, and graduated from U. C. Berkeley.

During WWII, Chuck served in the Navy and Merchant Marines in both the Atlantic and Pacific war zones. Following the war, he was a Senior Investigator for the California State Department of Agriculture for 36 years. An active member of the community, he was a member of SIRS, the First United Methodist Church, Tehama Lodge #3, F&A Masons (over 50 years), Guys and Dolls Dance Club, Ambassadors Club, and Toastmasters. He performed in local theatre productions (one of his favorite performances was his role as 'The Cowardly Lion') and sang with Country Club Aires. He was known for his infectious laugh and warm resonating voice. His outgoing, fun-loving personality will be greatly missed.

Chuck married Marjorie (Willard) on June 25, 1945. He leaves his devoted wife, 'Margie', his two daughters, Joan Gridley (Haines Gridley III) of Lake Tahoe, NV and Riverside, CA, and Laura Reed (Steven G. Reed) of Sacramento, and four grandchildren, Scott Gridley (wife Shane) of Rocklin, CA; Steven Gridley of Santa Monica; Philip Reed of Sacramento; Lindsay Reed Jarboe (husband Chris) of Walnut Creek; and three great grandchildren: Torrance, Talia, and Mitchell Gridley of Rocklin, CA.
