Helen Grzybala Obituary

Helen Szafranski Grzybala, 92, of Chester, passed away on Ash Wednesday, March 9, at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford.
She was born in Bridgeport, on Dec. 21, 1918, and lived in Chester, the town she loved dearly, for 52 years. She was happily married to Dr. Henry Grzybala for 36 years until his death in 1981. She worked for C. J. Bates and Sons as an accounting administrator for many years until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Chester and had a strong quiet faith that supported her during the many challenges that life sent her way.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Diane Grzybala and two of her three sisters, Jean Gawitt and Alice Artymowski.
Helen is survived by her loving son, Peter Grzybala and his wife Diane Korntheuer; her granddaughter Kimberly Grzybala; her sister Chris Kerekonish and her husband Wesley, and wonderful nieces and nephews. She loved her cat Daisy, her yellow lab "granddogger," Casey and her second "granddogger," Georgia, who was lucky enough to visit her recently in the nursing home.
"Mom G," as she was affectionately known to Pete, Diane and Kim's friends, was a loving and devoted mom who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a fabulous cook and baker, and made a "mean" chicken paprikash as well as raspberry and lemon squares and her world famous potato salad that couldn't be beat. She had a wonderful sense of humor and liked to playfully tease her son from time to time. One of her best girlfriends was her daughter-in-law, Diane, who adored her. Mom G was one of the most unselfish people you could ever know. She always placed the concerns and wishes of other people first and never asked for anything.
Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, March 12, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Middlesex Ave., Chester, CT.
Internment will follow at the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There will be no calling hours and in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Joseph's Church, Masonicare Partners Hospice, Saint Francis Hospital or the charity of your choice. Swan Funeral Home, Old Saybrook will be handling the services.
Peter and Diane wish to thank the staff at Kimberly Hall Nursing Home, St. Francis Hospital and Masonicare hospice for their wonderful loving care and support. Mom will be dearly missed and always remembered.

Pete, Diane & Kim - Aunt Helen was a class act. I will always remember daytripping to Chester to tool around in her blue Oldsmobile Omega with a can of Moxie and a big smile. She will be missed.

Pete and Diane, I wish to express my deepest sympathies to you and Kim on the loss of "Mom G.". It was truly my honor to have been her caretaker at one time. She was a joy. God bless you all. Perhaps she is somewhere now with her red lipstick all dressed up waiting to dance to Benny Goodman. Precious memories to you all.
Sincerely,
Terry Muller ( Haddam )
