Helga Romanek Obituary
Helga (Bastian) Romanek, 95, of Portland, wife of the late Bronislav (Frank) Romanek, passed away peacefully on July 12th, at her home.
Born on November 3rd, 1929 in Berlin Germany, she was the daughter of the late Marie and Alfred Bastian. She was predeceased by her brothers Hans-Gunter and Manfred Bastian. She was preceded in death by her biggest companion and love, her dog, Angel. She is survived by her son Frank Romanek and his wife Kelli. She also leaves behind her cat, Trouble. After surviving the bombings in Berlin during WWII, Helga met her husband Frank, an American soldier. They married at the end of the war and moved to Portland. Helga worked at Elmcrest, Goodyear Rubber Company, Smurfit Stone Container and Tri-Town Foods. She loved working in the yard and felt a strong sense of accomplishment of doing it independently. Donations in her memory can be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111. Memorial and burial services will be private.
The Portland Memorial Funeral Home, 231 Main St., Portland, is in charge of arrangements.
