Janet Mevs, age 70, one day shy of 71, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2018 after a long, courageous battle with a long illness. Janet was born on December 23, 1947, Janet Adrienne Cary, to the late Rosina and Richard Cary. She is survived by her husband, Clifford Mevs, her beloved daughter and son-in-law and granddaughter. She is also survived by her sister, Judith Cary and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, friends and other family members, who all miss Janet already. No one who knew Janet will ever forget her infectious passion for the simple pleasures in life. Mostly, she loved to spend time with her daughter, Alex and her son-in-law, Cole, and their incredible daughter, Islee Rose, who never ceased to bring happiness to Janet and a smile to her face, even in her sickest moments. Those who knew Janet also knew of her passion for good food, always on a quest for a gourmet meal, whether home cooked or at a newly discovered restaurant. Janet had high expectations in life, but that was in part due to her unparalleled integrity and work ethic. She had a sharp intellect, huge heart and an incredible sense of humor. She graduated from Skidmore College and went on to help others as a social worker at Connecticut Valley Hospital and later, as Cliff's billing manager at his medical practice, Pediatric Health Care, PC. She was always rescuing stray animals and would only adopt an animal in need. Janet loved to travel but hated flying…although her fear of flying never stopped her from travelling or living her life to its fullest. She met Cliff while travelling to Puerto Rico and the rest is history. They married, had amazing Alex, and went on to travel the world. Janet's home was always filled with her lifelong friends, family and whenever humanly possible, her biggest accomplishment in life and greatest joy, Alex, Cole and Islee Rose. There will be a memorial service for friends and family on Friday December 28, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. at D'Angelo's Funeral Home, 22 South Main Street, Middletown, CT with a reception immediately following at Esca's Restaurant, 437 Main Street, Middletown, CT from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly send donations to the Connecticut Humane Society in honor of Janet's dedication to saving animals in need.
