John Lesi Obituary

John Albert Lesi Jr., 94, of Cromwell, husband of the late Marion (Norman) Lesi, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011. Born in Hartford on April 20, 1916, he was the son of the late Giacomo and Luigina (Fossi) Lesi.
John was a longtime resident of Cromwell and was employed by Pratt & Whitney Aircraft for 38 years, at both the East Hartford and Middletown plants, as a tool and gauge maker. He successfully completed the course in tool making with Remington Rand Incorporated in May, 1940. As a skilled carpenter, he loved to build solid quality furniture, as well as complete many home improvement projects. John was a Veteran of World War II, having served in the Army by guarding several bridges in and around New York City. John had also volunteered at Middlesex Memorial Hospital, and participated in several clubs, including the Glee Club of East Hartford. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors without being asked. As a loving and devoted husband and father, he will always be remembered for his strong work ethic, good sense of humor, love of animals, and for being a good provider for his family. John was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox. Recently, he enjoyed visits from friends such as Sal and Virginia Luistro, and his beloved dog, Misty.
He is survived by two daughters, Melanie Savage and Alison Lesi, both of Cromwell; sisters-in-law, Katherine Lesi of Cromwell; Arlene Norman of Warren Mass.; Dorothy Norman of Putnam; Bonnie Norman of Kansas City, Kan.; and brother-in-law, Merton Norman of North Branford; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by both of his brothers, Albert and Louis Lesi.
The family would like to extend a warm and gracious thank you to the caring staff at the Water's Edge Center for Health and Rehabilitation, the Day Club, and Middlesex Hospice, all located in Middletown. Each organization provided a great deal of kindness and compassionate support to John during his later years, and for this the family will always be grateful.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 10 a.m. at the Cromwell Funeral Home, 506 Main St., Cromwell. Interment will follow in State Veterans Cemetery in Middletown where full military honors will be accorded.
There will be no calling hours and in lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions in John's memory to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111, or the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

John, you touched so many lives including mine and I am so grateful that I had the chance to meet you and even become like family. We spent a lot of time together during the day at home. You would always have that little Misty to protect you! You could always make my day and I thank you for helping me to sort out things in my life. You touched my life in wanting to help others just as you did. You will be missed.
