John George Leverton, Jr., 74, of Middletown, wife of Pauline (Holmes) Leverton, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2018 at his home. Born in Dallas, Texas, he was the son of the late John and Phrances (Flemister) Leverton.
John lived in Durham for twenty-five years moving to Middletown in 2007. John was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Army. He received the Distinguished Service Medal and four Good Conduct Medals. He was an active HAM Radio operator for over thirty years and a member of the Amateur Radio Association. John was also employed by the State of Connecticut Prison System in Cheshire for eleven years, an officer on the Hartford Police Department for fifteen years and owned several businesses including JSL Associates Cleaning and Locksmith Services. John had a love for computers and was presently pursuing a degree in that field. He was active in community affairs at Newfield Towers and was an active tropical fish breeder.
Along with his wife, John is survived by two daughters, Cecelia Leverton of Portland and Atty. Phrances Leverton Szewczyk of Middletown; three stepdaughters, Pattie Giuffrida of Meriden, Dawn Havener of Hamden and Susan Steiner of Durham; two brothers, Tom Leverton and Bob Leverton, both of Oklahoma; eleven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the State Veterans' Cemetery.
