Dear Carrie and Kevin, my sincerest condolences to the loss of your Dad and your Mom. I have seen this only today when searching for your family, and it made me really sad. Since a long time I've often been thinking about them. I was the neighbor girl, babysitting for your parents. When they were in Germany, I felt really close to them. They traveled a lot at this time and thus got to see many places in Europe. When they left Germany I was really sad and felt, as if a piece of my heart was torn out. I am very sorry for your loss. Love, Elizabeth

Joe was an amazing person. He was a real stand up guy is all aspects of his life. He was a kind and considerate boss and I enjoyed working for him at Middlesex Pediatrics .He was an astute clinician and for me personally an awesome mentor. As a young mother he helped me through the crisis of our first born’s hospitalization for a worrisome high fever. I was hugely sad when he retired from private practice, but he found a noble calling helping troubled youth. Truly a remarkable man who will be missed but remembered well.

Dear Betty,
I have such wonderful memories of our medical school days: the “Sheila we go to mountain” ski trips; the “Trick or Treating “; the “We shall overcome” anthem and of course St Patrick’s Day. He was a special guy. My sympathy to you and your family. May his spirit live on.

Dear Betty and the entire Flanagan family,
Bob and I are truly sorry to learn of Joe's passing. From Medical School on, through our dating days and our weddings, and with having Joe miraculously turn up at the same hospital as Bob, it was a true blessing to know him. Of course he was a marvelous pediatrician to both our Kate and Bill and they remember him fondly as well.
Please feel our virtual hugs and know that we will be praying for him and for all of you. We are in Virginia these days and just learned the news.

My deepest sympathy go to Betty and the Flanagan family upon the loss of your beloved Joe. I remember when Joe arrived in Middletown and joined the pediatric practice where I took my daughters. He helped take good care of them and I have known him and Betty as part of the medical community in the area over the years. You are left with many special memories to help ease the loss and you are all in my prayers

Dr. Flanagan was or pediatrician for all three of our children , who all remember him as wise and and caring and absolutely terrific with young people. As parents, we valued him as a person and a doctor and enjoyed seeing him outside the office often at sporting and school events for his own children. He led an exemplary life and will bemused by all who knew him.

Sincere condolences to the Flanagan family. I was a classmate of Joe at both St Benedicts and Holy Cross. We were both B.S. Bio majors at the Cross. Unfortunately, I did not keep in touch with him through the years. I was envious of what a fine basketball player he was.

We are so sorry for your loss of such a great man. My two children were lucky enough to have Dr Flanagan as their pediatrician. He gave me so much wholesome advice as a new mother and I always looked forward to my appointments with him. He loved his sports and always got a kick out of the tiny Notre Dame shoes and outfits I put on my kids!

I first met Joe over 30 years ago as I was starting my pediatric practice in Middletown. As a young rookie attending physician, I trusted Joe's leadership and often turned to him for professional advice . He eventually encouraged me to take over his position as Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at Middlesex Hospital. As time went on, we became friends, and I remember going on several fishing trips with him on Long Island Sound. I know how much he cared for his patients and his patients cared for him. He will be missed....

Dr. Flanagan was my daughters pediatrician. Sparkling personality, excellent
Dr., So much so , I took her to
Him until until she was 12.or 13. In the waiting room we both thought its time to move on, she was the oldest patient. We expressed our thoughts to Dr
He was so kind and under standing. Suggested who he thought would be a good fit.
We did go to this new Dr., who
was just as nice as Dr.
Flanagan. He did tell me, my daughter would be welcome to stay as long as she wanted to.
He was such a good Dr., good
man.
RIP Dr. Flanagan. Thank you for
taking care of my "little girl" who now is 48.yrs old and has a
PhD in Geriatrics.
Condolences to family and many friends

I met Dr. Flanagan many years ago when he was the Chair of Pediatrics at Middlesex; we also both attended an eight week boating license program in Portland back in the early 90s with the Power Squadron. He was a kind, caring and compassionate man, obviously of many talents; I was dismayed to find out he was retiring when he came to examine my firstborn in the hospital. I am so very sorry to hear of his passing; I always thought very fondly of him. My deepest sympathies to his entire family.
