Joseph Roget Obituary

Joseph Michael Roget Jr.
7-17-2021
Joseph Michael Roget, Jr. ("Joey," "JoeRock") – husband, son, brother, uncle and friend – passed away July 17, 2021 after a long and courageous struggle with sickness. Joey was born on April 15, 1960 to the late Joseph Roget, Sr. and Francies Lee Roget in New York City.
Around the age of 8, Joey relocated to Middletown, Connecticut, with his mother, sister Arcena, and brother Wayne. Joey attended Middletown High School and was extremely active in a variety of sports and activities, including basketball, soccer and deejaying. Outside of school, he was also involved in and practiced martial arts (karate and judo) in which he excelled and won various tournaments. Joey was also very proud of being a member of the 3-time state championship-winning 1975-76 Middletown High varsity basketball team.
A 1978 graduate of Middletown High, Joey went on to hold various positions in construction, carpentry, food service, and lastly as a chef/caterer in New York and New Jersey. After 14 years in Teaneck, New Jersey, Joey moved back to Middletown with his family. With his outgoing personality, Joey could talk to anyone at anytime, whether just meeting them or knowing them for 20 years. Cooking food and creating new dishes was his greatest interest and pastime. He will be missed by the many lives he touched through his cooking.
Along with his parents, Joey is predeceased by his niece Tamisha Thigpen and nephew Anthony Roget. He leaves to mourn: Crystal, his wife of 22 years; daughters Raquel Roget and Rochelle Roget of Middletown, CT; his sister Arcena Roget-Privott and brother-in-law Rodney Privott of Middletown, CT; his brother Wayne Roget, Sr. of Middletown, CT; brother-in-law George Pugh of Hackensack, NJ; stepmother Jana Roget of Dallas, GA; stepbrother Marlow Garvin of South Carolina; nephews Chaz, Wayne, Jr., Daniel, Raymond, George Jr.; nieces Chayanne, Ashley, Mariyah and Tia; aunts Delores Birkett and husband Ralphe of Las Vegas, NV, Barbara Roget of Bronx, NY, Jeanie Roget of Las Vegas, NV, Gwendolyn Grissett of New York; uncle Augustus Grissett and wife Beverly of Syracuse, NY, and uncle Roderick Jackson of Tampa, FL, as well as a host cousins, relatives, and friends, and a special cousin he thought of like a mother, Elizabeth Davis.

My sincere condolences to Joe's family, extended family and friends.
I met Joe in early 80's when we were drivers for RedCross/City of Middletown taking seniors to doc appt shopping etc. Joey was a buffed young man who charmed seniors with his debonair personality and wry humor. Plus, his ability to juggle several heavy grocery bags with ease was highly impressive.
In conversation it was apparent Joey was eager to make his mark on the world and often wondered where life's journey had taken him.
The short time I knew Joey he left a lasting impression, still brings a smile to my face when I think of him; just so sorry he passed so young.
