Margaret Langer Obituary

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Langer
Margaret Ann "Peggy" Langer, 77, of Higganum, beloved wife of Richard C. Langer, passed away on June 19, 2025, at Middlesex Hospital.
Born in Middletown, daughter of the late Stanley and Nellie (Dykas) Swol, Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher. She inspired many as an educator at Haddam Killingworth High School and later devoted herself to her family and hobbies. A skilled baker, gardener, quilter, and seamstress, Peggy shared her love and creativity with everyone around her, especially through her famous baked goods and homemade quilts.
She and her husband, Richard, cherished their role as Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus, spreading joy at local events. Peggy's warmth and hospitality were central to family gatherings, including her traditional Polish Christmas Eve dinners and Easter Egg hunts.
A dedicated member of St. Peter Church, Peggy also served with the Ladies Guild. She is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Richard (Connie), Steven, Patricia (Garrett), and Thomas (Stephanie); brothers, Stanley and Raymond Swol; and grandchildren, Hannah, Collin, Natalia, Elizabeth, Vanessa, Madison, and Micah. She was predeceased by grandchildren Timothy and Alexander, and her brother Michael.
A celebration of Peggy's life will be held Thursday, June 26, at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Peter Church, Higganum. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, June 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Memorial donations may be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, P.O. I met Peggy at church events at St John´s church in Cromwell and later at Sacred Heart on the Lake retreat center. I always enjoy her commitment to Jesus and her faith. I prayed for her during her illness and I am sure that even though our prayers were not answered the way we wanted, she was received in His arms where she found a love impossible to describe. Be at peace dear friend, he had waited for you all your life.

We´re so sorry for your loss. She was such a kind and joyful soul. We´ll always treasure the memories of her visiting as Mrs. Claus and the warmth she brought to our holidays-especially letting our daughter join the family Easter egg hunts. She truly made the season magical and will be deeply missed.

I am so sorry to hear of Peg´s passing-she was such a wonderful inspiration and support to me as a teacher at HKHS. I´ll never forget the day she stopped in my room to give me a lily of the valley, and I think of her each year as I see them blooming. My thoughts are with family and friends. Love Kate O´Mara

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow.
We will always remember her little gifts of joy a pretty flower in a simple vase or a Christmas arrangement
That dressed our dining table. But most of all we will miss her bright warm smile.

To Rich, your children and grandchildren, know that our hearts overflow with prayers for each of you at this indescribably difficult time. Our memories of your family go back decades - long before we moved to Old Saybrook - as both our families attended St. Peter´s Church. Though almost twenty years ago, we still remember sitting across the aisle from you and sharing friendly greetings after every Mass. With notification of Peggy´s illness, it became abundantly clear that once a friend, always a friend, regardless of time lapses or distance incurred through moves. Rest assured, as a result, that she and your entire family are in our daily prayers - and will remain there.

May God Bless Each of You ,
