Marie Jarda Obituary

Marie Jeanne Perrin Jarda
Marie Jeanne Perrin Jarda, a devoted nurse, beloved chef, entrepreneur, and vibrant party host, passed away on February 26, 2026, at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, Connecticut.
Marie Jeanne was known for her boundless love of cooking, which she used as her love language. Alongside her nursing career, she poured her heart into every meal and every celebration. She was a no-nonsense, fiercely loving presence, always making sure you knew where you stood with her.
Marie Jeanne was the "Community Mom," a mom not just to her own children, but to all of their friends and to so many in the Haitian community. She helped countless families and friends migrate to America, promising and providing a safe home and full bellies. Many children are named after her, a testament to her impact.
She was the proud owner of Imperial Caribbean Restaurant, the first Haitian restaurant in Middletown, CT, from 1994 to 2012. This legacy was started by her mother, Leoncia Sylvian. At Imperial, she treated customers and employees like family, fed anyone in need regardless of their ability to pay, and donated food to local organizations and the homeless. Her generosity and hospitality were legendary.
Marie Jeanne is survived by her husband, Dr. Jean Carl Jarda; her son, Garvens Jarda and his wife, Dana; her son, Cayes Jarda; her daughter, Tarah Lord; and her cherished grandchildren: Caleb, Ava, Mia, Zyra, Noa, Savannah, and Myles. She was the ultimate Auntie, leaving behind many nieces and nephews she treated as her own, as well as godchildren who often called her mom. She loved them all as if they were her own.
She also leaves behind her sister, Marie Flore Perrin, many brothers and sisters-in-law from her husband's large, close-knit family, and several close friends who became chosen family, her sisters in spirit. Marie Jeanne's circle of love and care extended far and wide, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Leoncia Sylvain; her father, Antoine Perrin; and her brother, Huberman "Tibo" Perrin.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 6th at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Pius X Church, 310 Westfield Street, Middletown. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call on Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Old Church Street, Middletown. I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Marie's passing. I will always remember her warm smile and of course her wonderful cooking.
She is one of a very few people I would let get away with calling me Debbie. Lol
One funny story I will always treasure is my countless visits to the famous Imperial Caribbean Restaurant. I ate there so much that one day I made my usual stop in for lunch and meeting. The Restaurant phone rang and Marie comes from behind the counter with phone in hand and said "Debbie someone is looking for you" I was shocked and she just laughed. She was truly one of a kind. She will be deeply missed but her spirit will live on.
