Nancy Wilcox Obituary

Nancy (Dean) Wilcox
Nancy (Dean) Wilcox of The Village of South Farms in Middletown, wife of the late Hopson B. Wilcox, died peacefully and quickly June 24, 2022. Born in Glastonbury on July 23, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Philip Frederick Dean and Florence (Howie) Dean. Nancy grew up and lived in Portland and Middletown. Nancy graduated from Portland High School in 1943 and then graduated from UCONN in 1947 with a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics at Middletown High School, Portland High School and Woodrow Wilson High School, before retiring in 1981. Upon retiring she made custom draperies and slip covers for clients in the area. She spent her summers at the family cottage in Niantic. She was a member of a bridge club for almost 40 years. She was also a member of the First Church of Christ, Middletown, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the Bee and Missionaries. Music was her main love but she also enjoyed sewing, needle crafts and knitting. No surprise, Nancy was also a great cook! She leaves 3 daughters, Cynthia Wilcox and her husband Charles Smith of Glastonbury, Lori Wilcox of East Hampton, and Jan Cotter and her husband Bill of Middletown. She also leaves 5 grandchildren, Sharon (Cotter) Marple and her husband Shaun, James Wilcox-Smith and his wife Kailey, Beth, Katie and Robbie Wilcox-Smith. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Muriel Wilcox of Pennsylvania, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Austin and Rosella Rich of Pennsylvania, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Phil Dean and sister, Barbara (Dean) Downie. A special thank you goes to her caregivers at the Village, and to Millicent Malcolm, an APRN who paid very special attention to Mom's care.
Friends and family may call on Thursday morning, June 30th, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Doolittle Funeral Home on 14 Old Church Street in Middletown with a service following at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
