Paolo Roccuzzo, beloved husband, father, and brother, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 84.
Paolo was born on November 2nd, 1939, in Manterosso Almo, Sicily, to Filippo and Giovanna (Tavano) Roccuzzo. He grew up in a close-knit family, cherishing the values of hard work, compassion, and integrity that would guide him throughout his life. After immigrating to the United States in 1989, he had a successful career of 17 years with the City of Middletown, working as a well-loved custodian for the Middletown Public Schools.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Paolo's true joy came from his role as a father and grandfather. He was a devoted and loving dad, always putting his family first. Whether it was attending dance recitals, or simply sharing a story around the dinner table, Paolo cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren. In his free time, Paolo was an avid gardener. He loved planting many types of vegetables and tending to his fig trees.
Paolo is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Filomena (Savastra); his daughters, Giovanna (Christopher) Goodale of Middletown; and Rosaria (James) Giannetti of Southington as well as two granddaughters, Giulia and Alessandra. He is also survived by his brother Giuseppe of Germany, and sister Conceta of Sicily, along with many nieces, nephews and friends all who will miss him dearly. Other than his parents, he is predeceased by his brothers: Giovanni, Salvatore and sisters Maria and Rosa.
He will be remembered for his kind, gentle spirit, generosity, and his profound love for his family. Though he may be gone from our sight, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 5th from 5-7 p.m. at the Lastrina Family Funeral Home, 491 High Street Middletown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 6th at 10 a.m. at St. Sebastian's Church, Middletown, followed by burial at St. Sebastian's Cemetery, Middlefield.
Paolo's family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Middlesex Hospital and Gaylord Hospital who provided compassionate care during his illness.
