Sally D'Aquila Obituary

Sally Anne M. D'Aquila
Sally Anne M. D'Aquila, 84, of Old Saybrook, beloved wife of Salvatore "Butch" D'Aquila, Jr. of Old Saybrook and mother of Salvatore D'Aquila, III passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Middlesex Memorial Hospital. Sally Anne is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Butch, beloved son Salvatore D'Aquila, III, his wonderful wife Stacey, and her four cherished grandchildren Tessa, Kyla, Caden, and Brynn. Her brother Jerome "Mickey McGee (late Suzanne McGee) of Middletown, her sister Nancy M. Bell and husband Mike Bell of Old Saybrook, her brother Peter McGee and wife Ruth H. McGee of New Hampshire, her brother-in-law Thomas D'Aquila and wife Margaret S. D'Aquila of Middletown, her brother-in-law Vincent Cappello (late Agatha D. Cappello) of Portland, along with 15 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and nephews and her beloved animals Maude and Bella. She was born in Norwich, daughter of the late Jerome and Phyllis (Oat) McGee. Sally Anne was a Mayflower descendant which she was very proud of. Sally Anne moved with her family when she was a young girl to Middletown, where she was raised and educated. She was employed as a switchboard operator for SNET and later worked for the City of Middletown in the Finance Department. She volunteered and started many charitable funds at many organizations in the City of Middletown, the Town of Old Saybrook, and the City of Hartford including, Founder of the rose garden at the Middletown Historical Society, Middlesex County Historical Society, Indian Hill Cemetery, Middletown Garden Club, Middlesex County Community Foundation, Old Saybrook Historical Society, Kathleen E Goodwin book buddy's program, Middlesex Memorial Hospital, and Hartford Hospital. She also received several awards for her devotion and hard work for these organizations. One of her most cherished awards was a Proclamation from Mayor Benjamin D. Florsheim at the Rockfall Foundation. She was a loving, devoted, and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandma, sister, aunt, godmother, and friend, who was very giving. She instilled the importance of reading and education and helping others. She was an avid reader who loved reading and the knowledge she acquired from reading. That knowledge was put to good use as she was the Jeopardy Champion amongst the family. And she had no problem letting you know it! She was the family historian, who knew the family history inside and out. She lived life her way to the fullest and strived for and only accepted the very best. We love you; we miss you and are truly blessed to have had you in our lives. We will do our very best to carry on all that you have instilled and taught us all. Sally was a good friend and neighbor. I always enjoyed our random meetings as well as our planned outings. She was curious, knowledgeable, insightful and caring. This spring especially I will miss her visits to my yard to give advice and encouragement about gardening or just to share a story. Her passing certainly leaves a void in our lovely neighborhood.
