Salvatore DiMauro Obituary

Salvatore S. DiMauro
December 5th, 1940 – May 17th, 2025
Salvatore "Sal" S. DiMauro of Portland, Connecticut passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 17th, 2025. He was the husband of Ida (Parnasso) DiMauro and they would have celebrated 62 years of marriage on May 25. Sal was born in Melilli Sicily on December 5, 1940 to the late Rosario and Rosa DiMauro.
After leaving Melilli, Sicily at the age of 15, Sal lived in Middletown, Connecticut before settling in Portland with his wife Ida and their four children. Before his retirement, Sal had a long and distinguished career as a machinist and lead man for 36 years at Pratt and Whitney, and ran a personal business called B&D Flexible Tools. He was innovative and loved working with his hands. Aside from machinery and metal work, one of his greatest passions was tending to his gardens. In the warmer months Sal could be found donning his straw hat for a days worth of pruning, planting and weeding. He found joy in the aesthetic of trimming his outdoor trees into eye marveling spirals and shapes that brought his yard to life.
Beyond his personal passions Sal had a strong adoration and love for family. He loved nothing more than being surrounded by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved sharing his life through stories of the past, answering inquisitive questions and often times cracking a joke or two before sharing some of life's best lessons.
Sal leaves behind his wife Ida and three daughters: Rose Marie and Shawn Carlson of Middletown, Josephine and William Unikewicz of Vermont and Lorraine and Michael LaMalfa of Portland as well as his three siblings: Josephine and Joseph Bartolotta of Middletown, John and Maryellen DiMauro of West Hartford, and Tony and Barbara DiMauro of Middletown.
In addition, he leaves behind ten grandchildren: Jessica (Christopher), Christopher (Cassandra), Nicholas (Kaitlyn), Kristina, Alyssa (Tucker), Brendan, Michael (Paige), Mya, Kayla, and Joseph, as well as seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews .
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Rosario "Tom" DiMauro, and his sister and brother in law, Jenny and Sebastian LaBella.
The family of Sal would like to extend their immense gratitude to Portland Care & Rehabilitation Centre for the care they provided him over the past year. Calling hours will be at D'Angelo Funeral Home, 22 S Main Street in Middletown, on Thursday, May 22nd 4:00-6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Portland on Friday May 23rd at 10:00 a.m. with burial to follow at St. Sebastian's Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Connecticut Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
