Shirley Marie Roybal Bauer, 88, of Waycross Georgia passed away on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities.
Born January 16, 1936, in Middletown, Connecticut. Shirley is an honor graduate of Middletown High School class of 1953. She met Jerry F. Bauer in 1954 whom she married twice, eloping to New Jersey on January 29, 1955, followed by a Catholic wedding at St. Sebastian's church in Middletown, May 7, 1955.
On this date she began her first full-time job serving 22 years as a submariner's wife and mother of three sons. After Jerry's retirement, Shirley moved back to Middlefield, Connecticut with her family where they took over the family business, Roybal & Sons Fire Equipment Company which was founded by her parents J Louis and Ann Roybal of Rockfall, Connecticut. Shirley was an avid coin collector, gardener, loved arts and craft projects, and decorating for the holidays. One of Shirley's greatest passions was entering floral arrangements, canned goods, and cakes into the Durham Fair with her sister, Betty Kindschi. The pair won numerous awards for many years. Eventually, Shirley and Jerry retired from the family business and relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida, where she lived until Jerry passed away in May of 2020. Shirley then relocated to Baptist Village to be closer to her son and daughter in-law, Jerry Jr. and Phyllis.
Shirley is survived by her three sons, Jerry F. Bauer Jr. (wife Phyllis) of Waycross, Georgia; Ronald Bauer of Windsor Locks, Connecticut; Daniel Bauer (wife Charlene) of Limington, Maine; and granddaughter, Amanda Nicole Bauer of Mandeville, Louisiana.
Shirley's cremains will be interned in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Mancos, Colorado on a family plot located in a part of the Bauer Ranch which was donated to the cemetery association in 1949 by Phil and Esma Bauer. Here she will be with her loving husband and soul mate of 65 years.
Music Funeral Home of Waycross, Georgia has been selected to handle the arrangements and there is no celebration of life planned at this time.
