WILLIAM ZIEGLER Obituary

William "Wild Bill" Hunt Ziegler, 70, of Middlefield died Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at his home. He was born September 19, 1946 in New Britain, son of late Clifford and Ellen (Casper) Ziegler. Bill is survived by his family; devoted husband to Cindy, L (Krupp) Ziegler; beloved father to his two sons, Buffalo Ziegler and his wife Joelle of Durham, Berkshire Ziegler and his wife Kathryn of Rockfall; his daughter, Heather Page and her husband Adam of Plantsville; and his six grandchildren. Bill is predeceased by his brother, Paul F Ziegler. Bill served in the US Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. Bill was most remembered as an entrepreneur, local legend and iconic owner of Wild Bill's Nostalgia in Middletown Connecticut. Bill had a passion for traveling the world, not just seeing the sights but meeting the people and had a knack for finding the spots that the ordinary traveler just drives past. He met people on his travels that would become lifelong friends, who would later make a pilgrimage to see him in all his glory at Wild Bills. Bill had a passion for art and collecting. He loved to showcase the work of various artists on the grounds of his store. Along with the artists he collaborated with, Bill could see the beauty in nontraditional art and objects. Once you shared a conversation with him and see his excitement about a new piece, you too could see it through his eyes. Bill enjoyed many things in life but none brought him the happiness of spending time with his grandchildren. To see the joy on his face when he spent time with them was to witness a man that always kept in his heart the joys and wonderment of being a kid. Bill lived a long adventurous life filled with laughter. He spread joy and wonder to the community and all he came in contact with. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all that knew him. Wild Bill, forever in our hearts and…Forever Strange. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Biega Funeral Home, 3 Silver St., Middletown. Burial with military honors will follow at State Veterans Cemetery. Friends may called Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 5 to 7 PM. Memorial contributions may be sent to Soldiers' Sailors' and Marines' fund 864 Weathers Field Ave., Hartford, CT 06114. My sincerest condolences the William Ziegler's family. I never met William, though I recently found out that he is a 3rd or 4th cousin of mine. My grandfather (Jacob) and Williams grandfather (William "Billy" Ziegler) were brothers.
May he rest in peace and continue to collect nostalgia in the next life.

My sincerest condolences to the Ziegler family & all who loved him. I was just one of Wild Bill's customers but Bill always welcomed you as you came thru the door with his smile & gentle way. One time he helped me go thru many of the small pins because I was looking for a David Bowie one. We searched & searched and Bill found one for me. I was & I still am grateful to him for not giving up. He was a patient man too. I will miss not seeing you as I walk thru the doorway to enter the store. Your physical presence will of course be missed, but I know there will be a part of you there still smiling. Rock on Wild Bill.

Berk & Katie - Thinking of you and the Ziegler family during this time of sorrow. I'm glad I got to meet the wild man himself and to listen to Berk tell stories of his childhood (and some adulthood too). A very cool, interesting, fun life to live. They say we are selfish when we lose someone close to us because we miss them terribly and want them to stay with us. But, be happy and keep your wonderful memories in your heart and be glad you were a part of such a wonderful person's life - he was lucky to have all of you in his. My prayers are with you! XO

LEGEND is not a BIG enough word for this man. It has been an a pleasure and an "expierience" truly in my life to have known him even in brief interlude. I remember each and every time well. Will always cherish each story and always marveled at such a LIFE keeping it strange...Apple core to wild bills to Pokemon stops with my now almost teenage child..... EPIC! ONLY THE GOOD DIE SOO YOUNG AND ALWAYS KEEP US WANTING MOREAlways strangeALWAYS ROCKING

A loss beyond measure. I delivered the newspaper to the Zeigler family back in my teen years. I can still see Bill and Cindy and at the time had only 2 babies. They were always so kind and the coolest family in that little town. As time passed and I moved away, I stopped by one day at Wild Bills and much to my suprise there he stood! Mr.Zeigler! As I roamed through his wonderfully unique store,I stumbled through a bunch of pictures from the Waterford Speed Bowl ,the years when my Dad and Uncle raced there. I bought a few not knowing who my Dad would have known but he was so excited to see those pieces of memory of the good old days. I don't think Wild Bill realized how many memories he brought back to life through his treasures. He will always have a special place in my heart , so many hearts and the residents of Middletown lost a true treasure. To Cindy, his children and grandchildren, you are in my prayers. Rest in Peace Wild Bill and thank you for everything.

I only had the refreshing experience of meeting this kindred soul a couple of times...the first was a few years ago when the curiosity of his business and his eclectic personality that revealed itself in our encounter took place. We are from the same era and had an immediate connection to all things in life.
As I strolled through the premises I came upon a room that has an old stage tucked away in a corner and I shared with Bill my involvement in the entertainment industry and our "A CAPPELLA" vocal Trio *TIME WAS* and how in all the venues we performed in "this place and it's nostalgic memories" might be a great fit for what we and he does and represents and it might be a cool experience for his clientele as they perused the store and it's contents to come upon a group performing on that stage as they sang songs from the era of the products that he displayed.
He seemed to instantaneously take an interest in that concept and suggested I follow up with him on the prospect of us doing something like this.
I did in fact do just that a short time later through email and subsequent visits but unfortunately our schedule and his hectic business acumen prevented this from coming to fruition.
I will always remember those few encounters with fond and special memories...and cherish the few items I came away with (and still have) as I cherish the few moments I shared with this gentleman.
