I worked with John for 10 years and always found him to be a good Joe, very smart and he'd take his pipe out and I always thought this guy is such a man about town kind of guy, I'm sorry he's gone but I do have good memories of him.

John Halbert is one of those people you can call a gentleman and a scholar and truly mean it. The communities in which he lives, particularly Miles City, MT, are graced by his presence, again said unironically. Many of the better times of my life are spent in his company. In all future moments, he is missed.

As a longtime reader of the Miles City Star I remember it was a sad day when John retired from the paper. He was a credit to his profession.
My sympathy to John's family. I am sorry for your loss.

So sad to read this. We worked together at the Star, but he was more than just a colleague. He was a friend, a mentor and an inspiration. And, a fellow Barn Player. My condolences to his family, RIP, John.
