Gary Barrows Obituary

Gary N. Barrows Lt. Milford Fire Department, 57, of Hopedale passed away Tues., July 4, 2017 at his residence with his family and friends by his side. He was the husband of Teresa L Terry (Anzivino) Barrows. Gary had been a Fire Fighter for the Town of Milford for 30 years before retiring in 2014 as a Lieutenant. He also had been a funeral assistant for many years and most recently enjoyed his position as a car salesman for Nissan of Milford, MA. He was born November 19, 1959 in Framingham, the son of Robert E. and Marilyn (Nelson) Barrows, Sr. of Somerville, SC. He was a graduate of Hopedale High School, class of 1977 and graduated from Quinsigamond Community College with a degree in Fire Science. Gary was also a U.S. Air Force Veteran. Gary enjoyed visiting Cape Cod and New Hampshire with his family and friends and cruising to the Caribbean. He enjoyed softball, hockey, and taking his Harley out for long scenic rides with his wife and their close friends Jim and Vicki Vignone. In addition to his wife of 33 years, and his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Brooke E. and her husband Dylan M. Byrnes of Hopedale; two brothers, Robert E. and his wife Susan Barrows Jr. of Bath, ME, and James A. and his wife Mary Barrows of Southborough; a sister, Jennifer L. and her husband Max ODonnal of SC; a grandson, Kane Oliver Byrnes of Hopedale as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a grandson, Everett Alexander Byrnes in 2016. Gary took pride in both of his grandchildren and had the endless love and laughter of Kane, providing him with the purest joy in the hardest times. He put up the strongest battle against his illness and fought relentlessly to stay here with his family since his diagnosis in 2014. After being blindsided with a time stamp of 6 months, Gary defied all odds by surviving an additional 3 years and making the absolute best of his time here. He was viewed as a beacon of strength to those close to his heart, and gave constant guidance and support to those who needed it. Gary had the kind of humor that could make a stranger smile, and he retained that sense of humor throughout it all. He had a love far deeper than words could express for his daughter, Brooke, and she will maintain the honor that her father embodied and carry out his love. As for his beloved wife, Terry, she was his treasure and his shoulder to lean on through every step of his journey and during the happy and healthy years, too. The love that these two shared, is a bond that will never fade, a marriage to be cherished forever. May we remember Gary for the strong and kind hearted soul he was and may we wish him well on his journey to a new chapter of a pain free life among the cloud lines. His soul will forever be alongside us. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 1-4 PM in the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford. Funeral services will be Monday, July 10, 2017 at 10 AM in Union Evangelical Church, 25 Dutcher Street, Hopedale followed by burial with full Military Honors in Hopedale Village Cemetery, Mendon St., Rte. 16, Hopedale. Memorial donations may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Milford Regional Healthcare Foundation, 14 Prospect St., Milford, MA 01757. www.bumafuneral.com
