Philip Travers Obituary

Philip H. Travers UPTON Philip H. Travers, 65, of Upton, passed away Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston. He was the husband of Janice (Carpenter) Spencer-Travers. A resident of Upton for the past 20 years, Mr. Travers owned and operated The Tradesman in Milford for the past 37 years. He was proud of having the distinction of longest consecutive liquor license in the town of Milford. He had previously worked at the former Draper Corp. prior to serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed frequent trips to Las Vegas, Nev., taking cruises, and loved time spent working around the pool at home. He was born in Cambridge, the son of the late Thomas and Phyllis (Cummings) Travers, and was a graduate of Hopedale High School, where he was a record holding athlete in basketball and also played baseball. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a stepson, Craig M. Spencer of Milford; two stepdaughters, Jo-Ann M. and her husband, Chip Decato, of York, Maine, and Kathleen S. and her husband, Shawn OLeary, of Framingham; three brothers, D. Craig Travers of Hopedale, Thomas Travers Jr. of Florida, and Guy E. Travers of Northbridge; and five grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life Saturday, Feb. 7, noon to 6 p.m., at The Tradesman, 284 West St., Rte. 140, Milford. Arrangements are under the direction of Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, Milford (www.bumafuneralhome .com).

Jan,
My sincere condolences to you and your family. Phil was one of the happiest folks I've ever known. I'll miss his sense of humor and his wit when the patrons would give him a hard time...
I believe he is in a better place now..
We will carry on the "tradition" of the Tradesman in his memory...

Dear Jan and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Please accept my sincerest sympathy. Phil was a #1 guy. I had alot of fun with him. We played basketball at HHS. I remember passing the ball to Phil and Donny Lutz; I got along with both of them and would split the ball evenly with them. Phil was an amazing shot; he was deadly..I had a pretty good view. He was a good man and will be missed by many.
Sincerely,

Jack Strapponi
