Clifford Thomas Melanson (Tom) of Eustis, Florida passed away on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on June 7, 1941, in Cumberland Rhode Island, but grew up in Nova Scotia, Canada where he could often be found on the ice. He was passionate about playing hockey but participated in other sports as well.
He enlisted in the United States Army at age 17, providing 22 years of active service, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant, E-8. During his military career, he was stationed at several U.S. bases, as well as Germany and France. He served war-time tours in Korea and Vietnam. He was also actively involved in hockey and baseball.
After retiring from the Army, he continued working in logistics as Director of Material Management at Hollywood Memorial Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. He retired from Hollywood Memorial Hospital in the mid 1980's and moved to Central Florida where he took after his father, a professional carpenter, and began the long process of building his own house. During his down time, he enjoyed watching sports and began playing golf.
Tom was preceded in death by both parents, Joseph Clifford Melanson of Corbeerrie, Nova Scotia and Anna Beaulieau of South Attleboro, Massachusetts, and one sister, Blanche Menard of Rhode Island.
He is survived by his spouse, Patsy Melanson, three children, Sharon Rowlett, Susan Gunby, and Joseph Melanson, two stepchildren, Danita Coletti and Karen Bulick, one sister, Margaret Dextraze, one half-sister, Diane VanTassell, and one half-brother, Mark Melanson. Grandchildren include Ashley Beard, Allen Miles, Carson Villa, Olivia Villa, Kristen Russom, Michael Bratcher, Mason Bratcher, and Mathieu Bratcher. Great-Grandchildren include Greyson and Pierson Beard, Raelynn and Autumn Miles., and Luisa Russom.
Tom will be interred at Florida National Cemetery located at 6502 SW 102nd Avenue in Bushnell, Florida on Tuesday, October 21st.
