Clifton Humphries Obituary
Clifton is predeceased by his wife, Wilma of 55 years, and one son, Mark.
He is survived by one brother, Burl; and his adult children, Lynn (Eric) Lowe, Robyn Sandidge, and Kenny (Joan) Magalong. He leaves 4 grandchildren, Amanda, Erica, Cory and Kian; and 3 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Clifton, and Robbie.
Clifton enlisted in the Marines in 1950, and immediatedly was requested to audition for the Marine Corps Band. He served in Korea, with 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, 1951-52, and Vietnam with the 3rd Marine Division 1967-68.
As the Drum Major he led the USMC marching bands with authority and grace; and the parades included the Presidental Inaugural parade in 1968, the Rose bowl parade, and parades across Okinawa and the Far East, home to III Marine Expeditionary Force and Marine Corps Installation Pacific (MCIPAC) and the III Marine Amphibious Force Band.
His military career included leading the Quantico Marine Corps Band (Quantico, Virginia), Parris Island Marine Band (Parris Island, South Carolina), Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twenty-nine Palms Band (Twenty-nine Palms,California), 2nd Marine Division Band (Camp Lejeune, North Carolina), and the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band (Cherry Point, North Carolina).
He was an excellent musician and band leader; and was respected and loved by his bandsmen. Clifton retired after serving 28 years as Drum Major with the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant.
Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemeter on October 25, 2023. Clifton will be laid to rest next to his infant son, Brett who died shortly after birth in 1964. A memorial will follow after the service.
