William "Bill' Howard McGehee, age 94, of Cibolo, Texas, passed away on January 2, 2026, in
Schertz, Texas.
Bill was born on January 4, 1931, in
Rumsey, Kentucky, to Henry and Martine McGehee. He dedicated twenty years of his life to honorable service in the United States Navy, retiring in 1970. During his distinguished military career, he served his country with pride and courage, earning the Korean Service Medal with One Battle Star, the Vietnam Service Medal with Three Bronze Stars, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Navy Unit Commendation Medal.
Following his retirement from the Navy, Bill moved to Lakewood, Colorado, where he continued his professional life as an HVAC Specialist in the industrial field, working with several companies throughout the Denver Metro area before later retiring from civilian service.
Bill was proud of his military service and deeply valued time spent with family and friends. He was known for his sharp wit, warm humor, and his genuine enjoyment of a good conversation. In his leisure time, he loved golfing, bowling, darts, playing card games, and faithfully cheering on the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Astros.
A man of strong faith and generous spirit, Bill was a devoted member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He also gave selflessly to his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Spring Branch Volunteer Fire Department and was actively involved in coordinating construction and community outreach projects with Blanco United Methodist Church in Blanco, Texas. In addition, Bill was always willing to assist and supervise a variety of do-it-yourself projects for his family, generously sharing his skills, time, and guidance.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Martine McGehee; his brothers, Charles, Bernard, George, Lyndon and Junior; his sisters, Bertha and Dorothy; and his first wife, Shirley.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Laurete McGehee; his children, Brenda (Rick), Michael (Mariel), Julie (Bob), Steve (Jeannie), and Carol (Todd); eleven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1065 E. Live Oak Road,
Schertz, Texas 78154. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., 17501 Nacogdoches Road, San Antonio, Texas 78266.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers charitable donations be made toeither Hope Hospice, 611 N. Walnut Avenue, New Braunfels, Texas 78130 or Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
Bill will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, a devoted husband and father, a proud veteran, and a friend whose humor and kindness touched many lives.
