Stephen McGehee Obituary

Stephen Anthony McGehee, 73, known to all as Tony, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026. He was born on April 10, 1952 to parents JD and Norma McGehee in Memphis, TN. Tony was a devoted husband to his wife of 46 years, Becki, and a loving father to daughters, Meagan and Rachel.

Growing up in Trumann, Arkansas, Tony was an avid sportsman and lover of the outdoors who put 100% into everything he undertook. He enjoyed basketball and baseball and also lettered in bowling in high school. He was an avid duck hunter, known around town for his license plate CALLDUX. Tony enjoyed a successful 37-year career as your "Good Neighbor" State Farm agent. He was also a servant of God with a deeply rooted Catholic faith and intimately involved in many groups at St. Louis Catholic Church. He was a daily Communicant. He was very active in his men's Cursillo group, Fishers of Men group, Serra Club, Room at the Inn, and numerous other church ministries. He and his wife, Becki, also started the Feed My Flock yearly food packing event at St. Louis Church, feeding nearly 2 million needy over the past 15 years.

His greatest joy in life was his family. A deeply devoted husband, doting "girl Dad" and beloved GranGran, Tony was the epitome of a Christ-centered leader for his family. He spent much of his life known as Coach, as he enjoyed coaching his girls in all of their sports while they were at St. Louis Catholic School. He loved having a full house of kids and was like a Dad to all who entered it. He could cut a rug and even won the dance competition at the Father-Daughter dance a couple of times. A tower of a man in every sense, his booming voice and heartfelt hugs will live on in the hearts and minds of those with whom he crossed paths. Tony was a fantastic storyteller. His stories were captivating and hilarious, his laugh contagious. He was also known as the baby whisperer. He could calm a baby instantly in his arms and rocked his girls and grandbabies for hours on end throughout his life. He delighted in his grandchildren and loved watching them in whatever activities they were involved in.

Tony was the life of any party and will be dearly missed by his many friends and family. Wonderful memories of his life will remain in our hearts forever. He is survived by his wife, Becki McGehee, daughter Meagan Short (Cason) of Germantown, TN, daughter Rachel Revelle (Stan) of Ashburn, VA, grandchildren Byers, Mac, Ford, and Charlie Short, and Stanley, Charlie, Annie, and Zelie Revelle. He was preceded in death by his parents Norma and JD McGehee, his sister Catherine Kenney, and his brother Russell McGehee.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, 203 S. White Station Rd., Memphis, TN, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2026. Memorial donations may be made to St. Louis Catholic Church with the memo of Feed My Flock. The family would like to thank his caretakers: hospice nurse Becky, aides Diane, Della, Chauniece, Charlotte, and Jae, and the Baptist Trinity Hospice House for all the care, love, and comfort that he received from them. Words cannot express our gratitude.

Tony was many things to me. Younger brother I never had, Brother in law for 30 years, Fraternity brother and friend. Tony´s strong faith is an example to us all. His sister and I divorced 25 years ago and on her passing 12 years ago Tony was named my son´s guardian because my son was classified as special needs. For the last dozen years Tony and I have worked together well. It was clear watching his family grow how he and Becki´s strong faith guided them, their daughters and their grand children. It was an honor to be small part of their family. In our fraternity there is a closing prayer so let it be said "he was a man of commerce, a Delta Sigma Pi. The world is better because he dwelt upon it." Truer words could not be said. We always greeted each other as friends and fraternity brothers. When his last challenge was beating him down he never lost his faith in God. The world lost a very good man in every sense when Tony went to his reward in heaven. OREMUS RIP. I pray to join you in HIS presence one day, AMEN

Dear Becki, I am sorry to hear of Tony´s passing. He was my insurance agent for most of my adult life until he retired. A friend too. I remember a proud papa when the girls came along and weddings, etc. Tony always took time for a quick chat whenever I stopped by the office. You and yours are in my prayers. May you take comfort in knowing that he is
with Jesus now. 2 Corinth 5:8. Sincerely and deepest sympathies, Tina Ticer
