George Richard McCrory, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away on November 29, 2024, at the age of 85. He was born on October 18, 1939, in Willow River, Minnesota, to George and Harvina McCrory. George spent his early years growing up in Minneapolis until 1949, when the family made the move to McGrath, where he would eventually blossom into a standout athlete.
A proud 1958 graduate of McGrath High School, George was known for his talent on the football and baseball fields. After high school, he attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth before answering the call to serve his country in the Air Force in 1960. He completed his service and was discharged in 1964, ready to embark on his next adventure.
George started his career in construction, working hard until his retirement in 1998. In 1974, he and his beloved wife, Cheryl Ann (Haas) McCrory, whom he married in a lovely ceremony at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in McGrath, set down roots in Lakeville. They welcomed their daughter, Allison, in 1987, who became the pride and joy of their family.
After retiring from Mesenbrink Construction in Prior Lake, George and Cheryl moved to Finlayson, where they enjoyed their golden years together. George was a proud member of Teamsters Union 221, now 120, and cherished the friendships he made there.
An outdoorsman at heart, George loved fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He had a soft spot for dogs and enjoyed spending time on the computer. Above all, he treasured moments with his family, and he had a sweet tooth for chocolates and ice cream that brought him endless joy.
He is preceded in death by his mom Harvina McCrory (Hall) and dad, George Elias McCrory.
George is survived by his devoted wife, Cheryl McCrory of Finlayson, Minnesota, his loving daughter, Allison McCrory of Sartell, Minnesota, sister Florence (Dave) Minar of New Prague, Minnesota, brother Donald (Becky) McCrory of Layton, Utah, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
