Katherine Kosel

1926 - 2024

Katherine Ann Smuda was born December 22, 1926 in Waite Park, Minnesota to Isadore and Mary (Roehl) Smuda. She moved with her family to the Foreston area in 1927. She attended District 11 School in Foreston and graduated from Milaca High School in 1945. She worked at Naumann's Store in Foreston for two years. She married Kenneth Anderson on May 27, 1948. To this union four children were born, Richard, Susan, Michael, and Mary. Kenneth passed away April 13, 1968.

Katherine was American Legion Auxiliary president and worked cooking and waitressing at the Milaca Legion for six years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Guild president for two years. Katherine was well known for her cooking and baking and cooked for many local organizations and private parties. She began working at Lakeway Lanes in 1970 and was well known to most of the Milaca school students. She married Wilfred Kosel on August 21, 1982 and the couple moved to the Kosel family farm in Page Township. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing. Katherine prided herself in her flower gardens and canning. Wilfred and Katherine were members of St. Louis Catholic Church in Foreston, and she was a member of St. Louis Christian Mother's Club.

Katherine passed away June 18, 2024 at the age of 97.

She is survived by her children, Richard Anderson of Lawrenceburge, TN, Susan Larson of Milaca, Mike (Gail) Anderson of Milaca, and Mary (Darryl) Stimmler of Milaca; nine grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; two sisters; special sister-in-law, Pat Hallin and her children, Lori, Kimberly, and Dustin and their families.

Katherine was preceded in death by husbands, Kenneth Anderson and Wilfred Kosel; one sister and three brothers.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, June 24, 2024 at St. Louis Bertrand Catholic Church in Foreston. Interment followed at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls.
