Creston Arthur Obituary
He was born Nov. 1, 1945, in Keokuk, the son of John "Jack" and Thelma Shaffer Arthur. He graduated from Fort Madison High School with the class of 1963.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
On May 9, 1987, he was united in marriage with Kay Diedrich in Janesville, Wisconsin. She survives.
Creston was employed with the City of Keokuk Street Department for 19 years, retiring in 2007. He also worked in different auto repair garages, including Ray O'Hara's as a mechanic.
Creston was a member of the Keokuk Jaycees and helped with many street fairs over the years. He was a member of the Keokuk Yacht Club and was active on the board of directors. He was also a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 10 years, was a vessel inspector, and was the flotilla commander from 2002-2006.
He enjoyed racing stock cars and helping with the fly in's at the airport. Creston loved horses and enjoyed taking care of other people's horses.
He is also survived by his children, Angie Wieprecht (Rick) of Warsaw, Illinois, Jeff Arthur of South Carolina, Jason Arthur (Nicole) of Bowen, Illinois, and Leah Faulkner (Tim Vonholt) of Quincy, Illinois; stepchildren, Marci Bullen (Danny) of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Michael Harbin (Erika) of Fort Worth, Texas; 10 grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his father-in-law Henry Diedrich of Arizona; two brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gene Arthur; and mother-in-law Lucile Diedrich.
Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday, with the family meeting with friends from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Dave Barrett officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Keokuk National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Southeast Iowa Dialysis, or the donor's choice.
