David Randall Hols, age 89, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 13, 2024.
He was born in 1935 in Keokuk, to John and Edith Hols, who together with his older brother John "Jack" Hols Jr., preceded him in death. The two attended Burlington High School. In 2022 he lost his beloved wife of 58 years, Marjorie Christine Hols (Schmidt).
He is survived by son, Brian Hols (Susan) of Minneapolis; daughter, Jennifer Hols; and granddaughters Olivia Hols and Shavon Hodges.
David was a 1959 graduate of the University of Iowa Law School and began his legal career in Washington, D.C., as a staff attorney for the National Labor Relations Board. A fortunate transfer to the Minneapolis regional office led him to his adopted home state and he soon joined the law firm of Felhaber and Larson, where he pursued a career as a labor and employment law attorney (on the side of management), retiring in 2000.
As a prominent attorney with a national reputation, he was widely recognized for his expertise and remained a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education courses. In retirement he became a self-taught woodworker, creating fine furniture for family members.
In recent years, he lived at Marvella senior living St. Paul , Minnesota, where he participated in many activities, including serving on the Resident Advisory Council. While there, he also made many good friends who enjoyed his intellect, great sense of humor and warm congeniality.

I have many fond memories of Jack and David when they were younger. I loved visiting Aunt Edith and Uncle John´s in Burlington. My mother, Iris Swift was their first cousin. My grandmother Mahala was Uncle John´s eldest sister. My grandmother and Uncle John shared the same birthday...January 9th. She was the oldest of the children and John was the youngest. Blessings to you all. Halo Sousek Rider
