David Alan "Rappy" Rappenecker, 67, of Burlington died Thursday, April 4, 2024.
Born Jan. 29, 1957, in Burlington, he was the son of Donald and Mildred "Midge" (Hallgren) Rappenecker. Dave graduated from Burlington High School in 1976 and then completed the Electrical Union Apprenticeship Program.
He married Diane Acord on June 9, 1979, welcoming three children before later divorcing. He then married Julie Hayes on Oct. 14, 2017, while loving her family as his.
Dave's lifelong career as a master electrician started by working with his father at R&R Electric, and later for Champion Spark Plug, and after being self-employed, most recently for Day & Zimmermann for American Ordinance at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant.
He loved being on the road on his Harley Davidson or in his sports car. Traveling and taking road trips was never out of the question. Dave was a member of Zion United Church of Christ, I.B.E.W. Local #13, River City Corvette Club, and Harley Owners Group.
He was a longtime supporter of the Burlington Bees, he enjoyed attending games and volunteering for the ballpark.
His big red truck was often seen at Napoli's where he was enjoying a meal and greeting friends. Dave enjoyed live theater as well as live music.
He was an incredible cook and grill master. Dave loved unconditionally and wholeheartedly.
He could literally fix anything and was very mechanically inclined. His helpful advice was always just a phone call away. Dave took pride in teaching his children his skills and spending time with them. He was very proud of his kids and enjoyed supporting their activities. Watching his grandchildren grow was a favorite pastime.
Survivors include his wife Julie Rappenecker of Burlington; children, Donny (Emilie) Rappenecker of Mediapolis, David (Elizabeth) Rappenecker of Bismarck, North Dakota, Danielle Rappenecker, and Jenny (Zach) Jensen of Knoxville; five grandchildren, James and Abigail Rappenecker, Charlie and Henry Rappenecker, and Hazel Jensen; sister Donna (Harold) Badtram of West Burlington; brother Michael Rappenecker of Burlington; two nephews, Brian and Kevin Klein; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral service for Dave will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at Lunning Chapel.
Visitation will be Friday, April 12, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends. Burial will be in Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville.
Memorials have been established for the Players Workshop and the Burlington Bees.
