Derald Dressler Obituary
He was born on Nov. 21, 1929 in Franklin, to Michael and Cora Dilts Dressler. He married Jean L. Fairlie on June 11, 1957 in Fort Madison. She preceded him in death on Aug. 28, 2016.
He worked at Midwest Waxed Paper, Anchor Metals as a purchasing agent and then at the Iowa State Penitentiary in the postal department. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during the Korean War and received a quilt of honor for his service. He was a member of Holy Family Parish and was a lector, eucharistic minister and usher for the church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Jaycees, Izaak Walton, national Association of Purchasing Managers and served on the City of Fort Madison City Council and the Fort Madison Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed refinishing antique furniture and fishing.
Derald is survived by three sons: Larry Dressler of Clarksville, Tenn., Scott (Dina) Dressler of Fairfax, Vt., and Bradley Dressler of Wheaton, Ill.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one sister: Muriel Kelleher of Bakersfield, Calif.. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son, Gregory Dressler; two sisters: Betty Steward and June Smith.
A visitation will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 with a funeral service to immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. at King-Lynk Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Gary Beckman officiating. A private family burial will be held at Soldiers' Circle in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial has been established for Holy Family Parish. I knew Derald when he worked in the shipping department at Mid-West Wax Paper Co. I worked in the office from June 1956 to december, 1960.
