Kenneth C. Burden, 94, of New London passed away on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
Kenneth was born on Aug. 12, 1929, in Milford, Nebraska, the son of Floyd and Hazel (Schweitzer) Burden. Kenneth was united in marriage to Marjorie DeBont in 1951. From this union four children were born. They later divorced. Kenneth then was united in marriage to Betty Klopfenstein in 1979 in Mount Pleasant.
He served his country during the Korean War as a Marine. He worked for the Local 91 as a sheet metal worker for 25 years, retiring in 1991.
Kenneth was a member of the American Legion. Kenneth farmed in the Trenton community for a number of years. After he retired, he restored John Deere Tractors for himself and others.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Alan (Pam) Burden of New London, Linda (Jon) LeWitter of Phoenix, Arizona, and Christine (Erick) Michel of Wilmette, Illinois; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Jean Roth of Washington; three stepchildren, Jim (Karol) Klopfenstein of Mount Pleasant, Steve (Rebecca) Klopfenstein of Richland, and Barbara Freese (Kevin Thomas) of Mount Pleasant; six stepgrandchildren; 11 stepgreat-grandchildren; and his son-in-law Matt (Laura) Yotter.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Nancy Yotter, five brothers, Jack, Bob, Lowell, Dick, Bill and Gary.
Friends may call at the Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant on Friday, Nov. 24, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.A private family graveside service will be held with full military honors.
A memorial has been established in his memory to the White Oak Cemetery.
