Patricia "Pat" A. Shaffer, 86, of Burlington died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, at her home.
Born on April 10, 1939, in Disco, Illinois, she was the daughter of Henry and Della (Sell) Cole. On Dec. 20, 1959, she married Marion R. Shaffer. He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 2020.
Pat worked for IRC until it closed. She then worked for and retired from the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. After retirement, she drove for the railroad, transporting its employees. Pat was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.
She loved to crochet, cross-stitch, needlepoint, and sew. Pat was especially good at sewing baby clothing. She also enjoyed making baby blankets for local hospital NIC Units. Most of all, Pat loved to serve people.
She is survived by two sons: Mark (Teresa) Shaffer and David (Annette) Shaffer, all of Burlington; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, Greeta Walters. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and many brothers and sisters.
Per her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to and accorded the care of Lunning Chapel.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at Burlington Memorial Park, with Rev. Tamara Wirt officiating.
A memorial has been established in her memory for Grace United Methodist Church.
