Dorothy Christina Manthie, 98, of Missoula, passed away on September 22, 2025, at The Village Health & Rehab Center of natural causes.
She was born on December 25, 1926, in Stevensville, Mont., to Edward and Ruth Pearson. In 1944, she married Merrill (Bill) Manthie. They lived in Missoula where they raised two children, Darlene and Wayne.
She worked for the State of Montana in the Horticultural Inspection Department, Missoula County Courthouse in the Treasury Department and due to her love of children she opened her own Daycare business which she operated until she retired.
She enjoyed accordion and fiddler jams, square dancing, reading a good book, flower gardening, watching the birds and loved Sudoku and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by Merrill (Husband); Wayne (Son); Edward and Ruth Pearson (Parents); and Willie Pearson (Brother).
She is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Joe) Gordon; two granddaughters, Christy (Mark) Hamill and Tammy (Grady) Barnett; great-granddaughter, Kaylee (Nick) McMicheal; great-great-grandson, Ira McMicheal; and numerous other family and friends.
At Dorothy's request there will be no services.

Both of my children had Dorthy as a child care provider soon after they were born and I had to go back to work. My first child, Austin, was born with developmental disabilities. Dorthy treated him like all the children and she potty trained him and she gave him the loving start he needed in life. My daughter, Jessie, adored Dorthy and again was fortuntate to have her care at the beginning of her life. Dorthy was an amazingly calm, confident caregiver. Just a few years ago, my son Austin, called her on Christmas. She remembered him, my daughter and I.
My deepest condolences for your loss. She certainly made a difference in the lives of my children. I will always remember her.

I remember Dorothy fondly. She and Bill were our next door neighbors on Bow Street and South Ave. Darlene and Wayne were my oldest sisters age. It is so sad to see the old guard pass. I miss my parents dearly. Blessings to Darlene and family.
