Marie Joubert Smith, 83, of Ronan - and recently Billings, passed away peacefully on January 13th at the Skyline Heights Rehabilitation Center in Billings. Marie was born to Leonard and Eunice Joubert on June 9th, 1941 in Fort Benton, Montana. Marie attended Montana State University and gained a degree in Business Education and took her first teaching job in Poplar, Montana where she met and fell in love with Lonnie Smith. Marie and Lonnie moved to Ronan and were married in 1965. Marie spent the next five decades as a cherished member of the Ronan Community, serving as a teacher at the High School for over 30 years, raising her family and as a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Parish. Marie enjoyed her retirement with Lonnie whether it was participating with their friends in antique car gatherings, traveling south for the winter or visiting her children and grandchildren. After Lonnie's death in 2013, Marie eventually moved to Billings to be closer to her daughter and her family. Marie will be remembered as a caring and loving woman and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by both her parents and by her best friend and husband, Lonnie. Marie is survived by her older sister, Jeanne; her son Kelly and his family to include two grandsons; her daughter Lea and her family also with two grandsons; and her youngest son Tim. Marie and her family are being cared for by Billings Cremation and Funeral Gallery. Arrangements for services are pending and Marie will be interred with her husband in Ronan.
