Martha Jane Fleming
Martha Jane Fleming passed away on March 25, 2024, at Edgewood Memory Care in Missoula. She passed peacefully and comfortably.
Martha was born in Camden NJ. on July 2, 1934, to Alton and Elizabeth Watts. She was the first of two children, with a younger brother, Dave. Martha lived in the Baltimore / Washington DC area. She attended grade school and Eastern High School in Baltimore. Martha later attended Wilson Teacher's College (District of Colombia Teacher's College) in Washington, D.C.
She married and started her family in Washington DC. Her daughter, Kathy and her son, Bob were born there. Martha's family had a beach house on the Chesapeake Bay, which spurred Martha's lifelong love of the Chesapeake Bay and the Blue Crabs that make the Chesapeake famous.
In her early adulthood, Martha primarily worked in stock brokerages and banks. After her first marriage ended, Martha met and married George Fleming, a career Forest Service administrator from Montana. George had two daughters from his first marriage, Tamara and Kari. Shortly after marriage Martha and George moved with her two children to Ft Collins, Colorado, where her third son, Josh, was born. In 1974, they moved to Missoula, Montana, and were married for over 52 years. Martha remained in Missoula until her passing.
Martha was very involved in the Missoula community. She was active in the Newcomers Club and PEO. Martha worked at local banks for many years and was a leader of the local Weight Watchers organization.
Martha is survived by her husband, George Fleming; her daughter, Kathy Alley (Marion); her son, Bob Homer; her son, Josh Fleming (Lora); George's daughter, Tamara Kenney; and George's daughter, Kari Scott (Chris). Martha is also survived by nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Martha was cremated and her remains will be spread in the Chesapeake Bay.
A celebration of her life will be held in Missoula on August 3, 2024 at the Zootown Arts Community Center (ZACC), at 216 West Main Street.
The family wishes that in lieu of flowers or gifts, donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Martha's name.
