Sarah Buchanan Obituary

Sarah Buchanan, age 81, of the Young Cove community, went Home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025. A native of Mitchell County, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Celia Twiggs Wilcox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James "Jay" Buchanan, who passed away in 2002; a granddaughter, Allison Buchanan; siblings, David Wilcox (Sandy), Madge Biddix (Boyd), and Betty Biddix (Walter); and brothers-in-law, Gene Buchanan and Charles Carpenter.
Sarah was a devoted homemaker and a faithful member of Roan Mountain Baptist Church. She also attended Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church. She found great joy in tending her garden and spending time outdoors. Above all, Sarah loved her family deeply, especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She was a kind, simple, and gracious lady who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Randal Buchanan and wife Leigh Ann of Young Cove and Jimmy Buchanan of the home; one grandson, Brennan Buchanan of Young Cove; two sisters: Sue Buchanan of Young Cove and Linda Carpenter (Donald) of Bakersville; several extended family members who loved her dearly also survive.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16 in the Green-Young cemetery. The Rev. Mark McKinney will officiate. The family would like to thank both Compassionate Care WNC and Blue Ridge & Palliative Care for their wonderful care and love shown to Sarah and the whole family.
